Hernandez the past two years:

Errors: 16

Passed Balls: 19

Caught stealing: 44-167 for 26 percent.

The guy sucks behind the plate.

The prospects included are Brandon Waring and Justin Turner who are about two levels too high to give up for this guy.

If those are the prospects then Ash, you are very wrong. Wayne K got over on us big time.

Those stats are terrible for a catcher.

There is more that goes into a good catcher. With Volquez and Cueto, I believe this is a good deal. Hernandez will be able to communicate with these guys and hopefully provide some leadership.

Here's a stat that matters: American League Leader board- Catchers WIN probability 2008.

The Reds have reportedly signed free agent Livan Hernandez.

Call me crazy but I like this deal , I've always been a fan of Hernandez.

It's been corrected ... the Reds aren't signing Livan. The Seattle beat writer was hearing a Hernandez-to-the-Reds story and thought it was Livan, it sounds like.

Jocketty would be off his rocker to sign Livan ... the guy was a human batting practice machine last season.

I've heard that Livan likes his money.

You're upset about losing a 24 year old that just made it to AA last year and a 22 year old in low A ball?

Freel doesn't have much value to the Reds at this point. Ramon Hernandez could ... therefore, it's a good deal, especially with the Orioles eating a chunk of his salary.

Hernandez and Hanigan could be an OK catching combo.

:thumb: I agree 100%

Both had good stats.

They were not going to contribute in Cincy but were more valuable than just throw ins for a one year starter. We could have used them more wisely. I do agree it will make the Reds better next season, just if your going to be throwing prospects around would have liked to seen a bigger deal take place.

I'm not sure how you can't like the deal, yeah we are going to pay him a little more than he deserves but we got rid of Freel who was useless to this team and give up some kids that will likely never make it past AAA.
