If I was a Major League FA, i'd want to play for the Reds...not because I grew up liking them, because my family would be able to see me play. That's all i'm saying. There are many things that could factor into a decision of where to play.

Not for a team with no history and no chance of winning. I've earned the right to shop my services. I'm going to settle for the best combo of $$ and winning. "Close to home" is a coverup excuse for settling for something less than you wanted or because you were after the most $$ possible.

He's going to get his money now matter where he goes. IMO, once you get that much money an extra couple million doesn't mean a lot and it has more to do with where you want to play, whether you want to play for a contender or not, and so on. I'd never want to play for either NY or LA team because I wouldn't like the environment. But that's just me...obviously you think differently.

So, Clyde, I have a question for you. Let's say you're a car salesman, or a CPA, or a nurse or whatever. It's your profession. You get the opportunity to make 50% more going to work in town X and can retire earlier, not have to worry about $ for the rest of your days,,,OR,,,,,you could take less to work as a nurse (for arguments sake) for the country's leading hospital. It's very prestigious and you'd have the chance to say that "I work for so and so, the leading hospital in the U.S.".

Really, I know this is an odd analogy, but can you honestly say you'd opt for plan B?

(I won't bring up the fact that some of the typical also rans made deep playoff runs when at season's beginning were thought to be closer to the cellar than the top of their divisions, not that the Nats are one of them, but in 10yrs, whose to say)

Your example is an apples-to-oranges example. If we're talking making $75k vs $50k, fine.

Again, the purpose of this board is to express opinions. I realize that I've criticized a former Atlanta Brave and that doesn't sit well with some.

 

However, IN MY FREAKING OPINION, Teixeira would be a FOOL for taking the Nationals offer. Someone romanticized that maybe he would be the catalyst for others to come there. And get paid with what? The Nats are putting all of their money into one guy. Secondly, its a TERRIBLE organization.
