Again, the purpose of this board is to express opinions. I realize that I've criticized a former Atlanta Brave and that doesn't sit well with some.

 

However, IN MY FREAKING OPINION, Teixeira would be a FOOL for taking the Nationals offer. Someone romanticized that maybe he would be the catalyst for others to come there. And get paid with what? The Nats are putting all of their money into one guy. Secondly, its a TERRIBLE organization.

 

The ONLY reason he would choose them would be because he's prostituting himself out to the highest bidder.

I doubt it. Couldn't the same argument be said about him? If he had any desire to win, he'd have been wearing pinstripes?

 

I'm simply saying that you never know what the motivation is. If the Nats are gonna guarantee 200mil to me, I'm all in, all things equal. Guaranteed $ means that if I blow out my knee on opening day and miss the entire season, I get paid. If I suddenly get Dunnitis and K 250 times next season and hit .215, I get paid. I hope that at the core of his decision is what's best for him and his family. From a purist perspective, I agree with you, I'd like to believe that athletes are as interested in winning as anything else, however, I don't think that's always the case. And frankly, in this market, who can blame him?

Jr: Junior was promised by this organization (who had just lost the playoff spot by one game) that they were going to build to win. It didn't happen. While he might not ever say it, I know he has to regret the move.

 

$150M vs $200M: Spindoc, are you telling me that you would take the $200M offer from the Nats instead of the $150M offer from a team that has a legit chance to contend for a championship? All of your arguments are great IF and only IF you don't have another outlandish offer from a contending team. I don't that applies here, right? The Spindoc family can't live off of $150M on top of all of the jack you've already made in your MLB career?

I see what you're saying and agree to you to an extent.

 

I'm assuming that Tex will do what he feels is in his best interest. If he thinks DC is the best fit for him, then by all means I hope he goes to DC.

 

The bottom line is that I am a free agent and nobody has even contacted me. :irked:
