Lets be clear here as it seems to be a theme. I fully understand that Tex can choose whomever he likes. I'm not sure how that came into question.

Lets assume stipulate (law school term, right?) that none of us have ever had to make such a decision and we truly don't know what we would do.

With that, one day we'll be saying "what ever happened to Teixeira" if he chooses that Nats. Sad.

He'll be traded from DC anyway at some point to a contender. He's played for a couple of "contenders" the last couple of years and he hasn't picked up a ring. Go for the extra $50M.

I would say that he would probably have a no trade clause built into his contract.

He'll be waiving it quickly if he signs with the Nats.

Why don't you think that the Nats can become contenders? Is it becaue ole Leather pants is still calling the shots? I mean the organization (Expos) has a great history for developing great young talent.

Jim Bowden - who wasn't part of the organization when they were developing the young talent.

If I'm a vet I'm not signing betting on the prospects IF my goal is to win.

Vazquez signs with the Braves.

An extension? He was trade to the Braves last week.

Teixeira has the right to sign with anybody he wants whenever he wants and for whatever reason he wants ... he's earned that right as a free agent.

And who is to say the Nationals won't field a contending team within the next four or five years? Look at how Tampa Bay developed into a World Series team. It can be done elsewhere, too.

If Dye's salary was an issue, I don't see how the Reds would acquire Burrell or Abreu.

Also, I would have much rather the Reds gone after Jermaine Dye than acquire Ramon Hernandez. Hernandez's salary is only about 3 mill less than Dye's, and Dye is a much better hitter. I would've been willing to give Hanigan a shot as the opening day catcher...

Is this one of those posts where we break out the Mr. Obvious?

Wow, CC and AJ?

Yeah, the Yankees wanted to get 2 big name pitchers this offseason.

Let them overpay for both of them. Burnett has been injury prone...

I agree. Giving Sabatha that many years & that type of money could backfire. He was a workhorse last year, but the ole arm can only take so much. I'd be leery.

And they're going to have to pay a ton to get Burnett. Didn't the Braves offer him $15 million per year? I'd think the Yanks would be in the $16-$18 range.
