Hardly a down year for the privates, given the percentage of schools they actually represent and even more so if the hypothesis is extended to region title game appearances (Add back in Desales, OC, LC).

I believe OH had a year a couple of years ago where five out of the six winners were public schools.
December 6, 200817 yr They are playing the regional finals tonight in Florida, but in the 3 largest classes (4A, 5A, and 6A), only 1 private school is still in the playoffs. Of course, that is USA Today #2 ranked and defending 5A champ, St. Thomas Aquinas. 3A only has Monsignor Pace left in the Elite 8. In the other 4 classes playing semi-finals tonight, 2A has private schools Tampa Catholic and Gulliver Prep playing each other, 2B has one private left with Trinity Catholic playing Florida High, 1A has North Florida Christian still alive playing public school Port St. Joe, and the 1B semi-finals are made up of all privates with FAMU High playing Warner Christian and defending 1B champion, Jupiter Christian, playing Victory Christian. In 2007, 25 % of the state champions were private schools. (2 of 8) In 2006, 12.5 % of the state champions were private. (1 of 8) In 2005, 37.5 % were private. (3 of 8) In 2004 NO private schools won a state championship. In fact, the privates have never dominated anything other than 1A and 1B. Back in the late 90s, in 6 class days, North Florida Christian dominated 1A. That's been about it.
