If I were Mr. Rowe I would ask myself the following questions about keeping or replacing Coach Brossart!

 

Has he been a good role model for the students of the school and the players on the team?

 

Since he has been at CovCath have the players improved not only as football players but as students?

 

Has he taught the students to be gracious winners and good losers?

 

Has he worked to maintain/improve the image of CovCath in the community or on a state wide level?

 

Have the players had fun while being on his team?

 

Will they because of Coach Brossart be better men, fathers, husbands, or community leaders due to what he has taught them?

 

Has he and his coaching staff deflected criticisms away from his players and toward themselves instead and thus protecting the kids?

 

Have the players become better Catholics/Christians because of Coach Brossart?

 

These are the question I would ask of myself if I were Mr. Rowe about replacing or keeping Coach Brossart!

It will be interesting to sit back and see what direction the folks at the top of the food chain, the decision makers, want the program to go... the athletes, parents and fans of Cov Cath football deserve better!

Should Bob Rowe decide that Dave stays he should insist that he upgrade his staff. The only one I know I would keep would be Boyd. From what I saw he does a very nice job of teaching.

Well, in the end Rodenburg ended up right where he wanted, so good for him...he did something right!

Really? Why would a program like CovCath hire a coach knowing he was on the 1st canoe to cross the river. I would think that the CovCath administration would think more of their program to do that. I'm sure the Bacon people said, sure come for a year, that would really help our program:rolleyes:

A few things that I feel sum up this situation:

 

-Brossart has proven he cannot handle this job regardless of the talent level of the team. Like someone said before, he's made enemies with the wrong people at CCH.

 

-The first mistake was made in hiring Rodenberg. After having a guy like Lynn Ray who IS CCH football, you don't hire a guy who you know isn't planning on staying. I blame that on Mike Clines who other than that, is a great prinicipal and CCH person.

 

-Bottom line, you need to find a person that fits all the characteristics that TOG said before. Tony Acito gets my vote. If what I hear about Rowe is true, Acito fits that mold. Clines had some sort of beef with Acito but the bottom line is that Acito is a no nonsense, straight football guy.

 

-The hiring after Lynn Ray should have been done internally from the get-go. Now we have to deal with a coach like Dave Brossart as a result of the situation being handled improperly to start with.

Based on what? 2 years with a strong class? Solid coach who took advantage of a great situation then bailed. Hardly proves anything. Good coaches are ones that take good talent and make them play better collectively. We don't know if he has that ability.

Correct. CovCath got a state championship out of Coach R coaching. He was a great man, maybe not the best teacher, but he was there for one reason and one reason only. To teach the kids he coached, win a state title, and upgrade his resume. If he was sneaky about it, sure I'd rethink how I felt about him as a person. He was completely honest and told everyone that his main goal was to be an offensive coordinator or some sort of coach at the D1 level at the very least (hopefully head coach). His ULTIMATE goal was to move on to the NFL somehow coordinating. You can argue how tough these goals could be but can you blame a man for shooting for the stars? His dream is what he wants in his life and he's the type of guy that isn't gonna sit back and let it come to him. He wants to go get it.
