Better than Lynn Ray? Not a chance based on his limited time at the school with a group of athletes that equated being dealt a pat hand. If he'd stayed and done something with the 2007-08 kids, then I might start thinking otherwise.

I'd agree. There is no way I'd put Rodenburg ahead of Coach Ray with only two years at CCH.

For what it's worth, i don't think Brossart is going anywhere. Think about it, who would want that job right now after seeing the headhunters come out this season. Good luck with the witchunt people.

I wrote to CovCath Principal Mr. Rowe and included my suggested questions to ask himself about keeping Coach Brossart or letting him go (and no, I did not give him my opinion)! In my E-mail, I also suggested whatever he did, he needs to do it quickly.

 

I received a reply from him within a day, and no I will not tell you what he said!

I'm a bit confused. Do you think all the noise about Brossart is unwarranted and that people were on a mission to get him fired?

 

Hey, he is your coach!!!! This stuff goes on at every school. People try to influence Coaches and admin by helping with lets say, a weight room for example. Coach Brossart says, thanks but no thanks. All of a sudden that Joe the Plumber who wanted to help out the very program he loves decides to get a witchunt together. Add to the problem a not so good football season and it's a recipe for disaster. Bottom line, win football games and the rest of it will fall into place. Maybe it's time to schedule some subpar teams other than the district games and get some confidence back. I don't know the answer. People will find out the program is alot bigger than a handful of people. Now 2 handfuls of people is a different story. You guys do what you want. Just because you bring in another coach doesn't mean the chemistry will be any better. Good luck to the handful of people with this one.

I know Bob. I played competitive softball with Bob for about 4 years. He is going to stand by his man. Not saying he is his man but it is all he has to work with.

I.Brossart has tried to up grade his staff but has gotten no help from the school itself.

Brossart would like to make changes but every time he has tried someone is yelling and screaming about how bad idea that is.

It is time for all CovCath parents and fans to get behind the coach,let all move in the same direction we beat are self up this year and got us nowhere.

The Colonels have always played a killer schedule so this year is nothing new. The difference is that in the past they were at least somewhat competitive. The schedule does need to be dialed back a bit but it cannot be used in defense of Dave since its a constant.

Cylde as to the "rebuilt" comment, I'm obviously not close enough to the CovCath program to know whether it did or did not need to be rebuilt. I've read posts on here talking about whether Rodenburg spent much quality time with the JV players. Some say no and some say yes. I don't know. But what I do think may be an indicator of how Rodenburg felt about the upcoming talent is that he left to take the job at Roger Bacon. It was common knowledge that he'd leave CovCath to take the Moeller job, but leave CovCath for Roger Bacon? That really surprised me and may have been an indicator of what he thought was going to be happening in the CovCath program over the next couple of years. If my hunch is correct, it does somewhat support the need to rebuild issue, doesn't it? I look at it as Rodenburg is obviously a smart guy and a great coach, and he left not for his dream job, but for a job that was really surprising, at least to me, unless he saw what was coming.

Honestly, I don't think there is a CCH team in its history that would even be competitive with Cardinal Mooney, Elder or St. X. More competitive than this year's team yes. But all those opponenets would deal the best CCH team ever a 3 TD or more loss. This is arguably the best Highlands team of all time and they lost by two TD's to Colerain, who got beat by Elder. This year's schedule was brutal. Did Brossart put that schedule together or is that a leftover from Rodenburg?

 

The key word is arguably... this is a very well coached and good Highlands squad this year. Calling this year's team the best of all time is certainly questionable. The Highlands' team is very good. The level of competition is down in N Ky this year and the 'Birds schedule was not nearly as challenging as Covington Catholic.

Maybe its a semantics issue. I wholeheartedly agree that Coach R left because the talent level dropped. However, "rebuilt" is the wrong word. That implies that a program had been down and struggling which was obviously not the case.

Rodenburg left because he wanted to get his foot in the door in an Ohio school. That was his pathway to Moeller. And it worked. He actually liked, and was close to MANY of the players who have played the past two years on varsity. He made no secret of the path he was on, and after the state championship that was the best time for him to move on to bigger and his opinion better things. It had nothing to do with the talent level.

He isn't MY coach . But I can assure you that no one was on a witchhunt for him. He did things that MADE people work against him. They are things that really aren't worth getting into because they are done and over with. Mainly because many of the parents and KIDS unhappy with Brossart and hoping for him to be gone are seniors and will not even have stake in next years team. They just know it would be a travesty to continue to let this man coach this team; and he HAS done things to earn his way out of the door. I think everyone knew they would have a rough season, so it came as no surprise. Brossart's mind games, antics, and attitude are what everyone has a problem with.

And again my question, in his interview do you think he told the CovCath people, "hey I'm gone as soon there is any opening in the GCL? And how about Bacon? Did they hear, "hey as soon as Mo opens up I'm gone?" Why would any program agree to those terms?

Exactly. I obviously wasn't sitting in on the interviews but I'm willing to bet he wasn't telling the committee these things. And if he did, then shame on Clines, as there were plenty of good candidates out there.

We have a couple of posters that believe he was completely forthright from the beginning. Haven't heard from them yet, but I just can't believe it.
