Covington Catholic coaching situation

Featured Replies

He isn't MY coach :). But I can assure you that no one was on a witchhunt for him. He did things that MADE people work against him. They are things that really aren't worth getting into because they are done and over with. Mainly because many of the parents and KIDS unhappy with Brossart and hoping for him to be gone are seniors and will not even have stake in next years team. They just know it would be a travesty to continue to let this man coach this team; and he HAS done things to earn his way out of the door. I think everyone knew they would have a rough season, so it came as no surprise. Brossart's mind games, antics, and attitude are what everyone has a problem with.

Fair enough!!!:thumb:

It's the same way at a private school. What they're referring to is all of the "influence" the principal receives. Bottom line, if the principal doesn't want an employee, they're no longer an employee.

Guys, I get that there are other factors but in the end, it's his decision...

There are teachers (and coaches) at Covington Catholic that have been there for 30, 40 & 50 years. If you think that Bob Rowe (or anyone for that matter) is going to come in and hire / fire who he wants, you're badly mistaken. Except maybe the Bishop.

Maybe that's how it works at a public school - I don't know. I do know that's not how it works at Covington Catholic.

I'll respectfully disagree with both of you. While there was a committee last time it was solely Mike Clines' call. I believe that to be the case with Bob Rowe as well. Can the committee make a recommendation? Sure. They can't make the decision. That's the principal.

If it was solely Mike Clines' call, why even put a committee together? To trick the public into thinking that Clines' was considering others' input?

As I stated to another poster, teachers (and coaches) shouldn't have an input unless they're on the hiring committee, I don't care how long they've been there. Not sure how you can recommend someone when you have no idea how they'll interview.

I can't believe Bob Rowe would accept that position under any other terms.

I'd agree with that; however, that's not what you said originally.

How can you disagree with my first post and agree with my second, when I've said the same thing?

Where did I lose you? I still believe the principal makes the decision, and of course, there's always outside influence...

The committee certainly had input. They simply didn't have final say.

Honestly, I don't think there is a CCH team in its history that would even be competitive with Cardinal Mooney, Elder or St. X. More competitive than this year's team yes. But all those opponenets would deal the best CCH team ever a 3 TD or more loss. This is arguably the best Highlands team of all time and they lost by two TD's to Colerain, who got beat by Elder. This year's schedule was brutal. Did Brossart put that schedule together or is that a leftover from Rodenburg?

In all honesty how can you even think what you just said was true?

The 2006 State Championship team had the then #8 ranked team in the country-Cincinnati St. Xavier on the ropes on the road through 3 quarters. None of those three previously mentioned teams would have beat the 2006 Covington Catholic team by 3 touchdowns. Would they have beat them? Probably. Those games would have, without question, been competitive.

I was going to stay out of this conversation, but I had to answer the question.

I am parent of a current student and friends with many of the junior parents.

I have attended almost all of the games including JV the last 2 years and have gotten to know some of the players and many more parents.

Most of the parents and the players I talked too would like to see Brossart back. There is a small group that has been out to get him since the start of last season.Brossart has tried to up grade his staff but has gotten no help from the school itself.

Brossart would like to make changes but every time he has tried someone is yelling and screaming about how bad idea that is.

Also many of the stories about the program the last few months are false or only half the story came out.

Brossart came to a program that had to be rebuilt and then had to play one of

the toughest schedules in the state if not the country

It is time for all CovCath parents and fans to get behind the coach, let all move in the same direction we beat are self up this year and got us nowhere.

Lets see want changes are made and a schedule that is more realistic

This is absolutely false. I am a former player and friend of many of the CCH football players. I can assure you that an overwhelming majority of parents, students, and alumni think that Dave Brossart is not capable of leading this program to the status it needs to be. In no respect were any people "out to get Brossart," his policies, decisions, actions, and coaching record all speak for themselves. I would say of the 24 seniors on last years team maybe 3 of them supported Coach Brossart. If you cannot command the respect and support of your players and captains, there is zero chance of turning this program into a State Championship contender, year in and year out.

In all honesty how can you even think what you just said was true?

Agreed. You are completely wrong Voice of Reason.

Cylde as to the "rebuilt" comment, I'm obviously not close enough to the CovCath program to know whether it did or did not need to be rebuilt. I've read posts on here talking about whether Rodenburg spent much quality time with the JV players. Some say no and some say yes. I don't know. But what I do think may be an indicator of how Rodenburg felt about the upcoming talent is that he left to take the job at Roger Bacon. It was common knowledge that he'd leave CovCath to take the Moeller job, but leave CovCath for Roger Bacon? That really surprised me and may have been an indicator of what he thought was going to be happening in the CovCath program over the next couple of years. If my hunch is correct, it does somewhat support the need to rebuild issue, doesn't it? I look at it as Rodenburg is obviously a smart guy and a great coach, and he left not for his dream job, but for a job that was really surprising, at least to me, unless he saw what was coming.

I am pretty sure that a very large factor in J.R. leaving was that at Roger Bacon he was not required to teach, whereas at Cov Cath he was.

And he was also going to be getting paid more over there.

He was leaving to go do less work for a larger pay, and at the same time help himself get in the GCL coaching picture.

I believe Cov Cath also beat Roger Bacon in a pre season scrimmage played at Cov Cath the first year after he left. CCH destroyed them from what I remember of the game.

Correct on all points. He did not want to do much actual classroom teaching when he was interviewing. CCH said he had to teach a full load. He also wanted more money that was not available.

I vote we move on from Coach R discussion unless it deals with how a principal may hire or fire a coach. We can all agree he did a fine job while he was here.

Agreed. I was just clarifying the fact that he didnt leave purely because he saw the talent falling off. And since Cov Cath beat his new team, they certainly did not have a total lack of talent.

Personally I think that the 2007 Colonels team had the potential to succeed much more and go further than they did. None of us will ever know. But I think that the new system hurt them a lot more than it helped.

Do you guys love and support the program or do you love and support the propram as long as the coach you wanted gets hired?

The only thing I am pretty sure of is if the W's were piling up this thread wouldn't be on here. This very public flogging of your coach is very unbecoming of one of the best programs in Northern Kentucky/State. I don't know coach Brossart or what mistakes may have been made but who would want this job with all the negativity surrounding this program? What is this about the third thread on this topic?

All fair questions, 2 Hump.

I'll speak for only myself but I bet others will agree.

The Ws and Ls are secondary. Anyone that bases CCHs success soley on their record is ignorant (literally). I've experienced both bad years and great years at CCH so I'm qualifed to make that statement.

I want the program to be represented properly from the top down to the frosh and middle school level. The head coach is responsible for all levels.

Theoldguy posted many qualifications for the head coach that have nothing to do with the product on the field. I think those are more important than the Ws. If we can win AND be represented properly - perfect. If we can only guarantee one, I want to be represented properly.
