November 16, 200817 yr I was reading a poll on a website, that graded the greatest rockbands of all time. They gave certain numbers out of 100, based on albums sold, concert performance, beat, lyrics etc. Interestingly the Beatles, who you would think are number 1, were number 2. Led Zeppelin was ranked 1 ahead of the Beatles. So i was just wondering who you all think is the number 1 band of all time? For me, its a tie between the Stones and the Beatles. Im sure there is plently of people who think Zeppelin, Acdc, Nirvana PinkFloyd, etc. could be number 1, Who do you think is the best???
November 16, 200817 yr Stones, Aerosmith and ACDC, have been around a while, with some terrific songs.
November 16, 200817 yr IMO the list was done right. BECAUSE.......without question the greatest rock and roll band of all time is............. LED ZEPPELIN!!!!! "cues a sweet Jimmy Page rif"
November 16, 200817 yr Loved em during the 70's and still love em today, The Stones, Aerosmith, ACDC, Pink Floyd, and the one and only, a little Led for the head!
November 16, 200817 yr My List of Greatest Rock and Roll Bands (not my favorite but my greatest list using the same formula as stated in post #1 would be) Led Zeppelin KISS The Beatles Pink Floyd AcDc Black Sabbath The Doors Lynyrd Skynyrd Rolling Stones Nirvana The Eagles Van Halen Aerosmith Metallica The Jimi Hendrix Experience (and later Gypsy Sun and Rainbows/Blue Wild Angel) The Who Motley Crue Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers Although I may like bands like Tom Petty and Hendrix better than say I do the Beatles, Stones, and certainly Aerosmith (who if I would have done a fav. list they would have been at the bottom of this list) going on the criteria stated for the list in the first post this is what I can come up with. I like AcDc a lot but if this would be which band I like the most out of the list AcDc would also be close to the bottom. However, their hard rocking concerts, album sales, and Angus' shredding riffs with Bon's screaming vocals gives them the staying power to be high on that list. Brian Johnson does a fair job, but the band lost a lot a voice can't replace when they lost Bon. Anything past 88' Metallica will almost make me puke, however, combine their album sales, popularity, awards, etc. etc. and obviously I guess they deserve a spot on the list. People may question KISS over The Beatles, but anyone who grew up in the 70's could tell you that the KISS army was far stronger than BEATLEMANIA and without a doubt KISS's stage show was 100x better than the Beatles. Although the Beatles sold a little bit more records and had far better lyrics than KISS, I gave KISS the nod there. People may question why I have The Doors so high??? Well If you combine Jim Morrison's stage presence with what else went along with a DOORS show, combine that with the beat of Manzarek, Kriger, and Densmore and the lyrics of the American Poet himself, then that is a recipe right there regardless of descent album sale numbers. For those who may question Nirvana, see above, because almost the same can be applied to Kurt Cobain only in a different era, and also has the album sales to back it up. So whats everyone else All Time Great List look like. And like I said not your favorites out of the all time greats, but with the criteria stated who can you slate as the greatest bands in a list. Also feel free to critique and question my list as well.
November 16, 200817 yr The Who The Who definitely deserves to be mentioned on anyones list. With the subject matter stated in post one, what would your unbias top ten greatest list look like Shoe?
November 16, 200817 yr The Who definitely deserves to be mentioned on anyones list. With the subject matter stated in post one, what would your unbias top ten greatest list look like Shoe? That would be difficult, and frankly, I'm to lazy to go into all that tedious criterion they use for those rankings. I have to go by gut instinct. We are talking bands, not solo artists with a well-respected backing band (e.g. Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band). In no particular order, off the top of my head, and I could go on and on: The Grateful Dead The Beatles Led Zeppelin Rolling Stones The Who The Clash Velvet Underground The Beach Boys Allman Bros. Band Lynyrd Skynyrd Drive-By Truckers No. Miss. All Stars Van Halen (DLR only) Black Sabbath (both Ozzy and RJD incarnations) Metallica (up to "And Justice ...") Aerosmith (Drug years only) Black Crowes Pearl Jam Nirvana Alice In Chains Phish Radiohead Oasis Judas Priest Iron Maiden AC/DC (Bon Scott years) Uncle Tupelo/Wilco/Son Volt Whiskeytown V-Roys The Pixies ...
