According to Julian in Big Daddy, Styx was the greatest wock band of all time. :jump:

I was reading these posts and,just for a moment,thought I was reading a Hit Parader magazine from circa 1974.

 

Just for the record,my favorites:

I will give my reasons for my reasoning. Remember, it's just my opinion.

 

The Byrds had 3 songs: Mr. Tambourine Man, Eight Miles High, and Turn,Turn,Turn.

 

Simon & Garfunkle transcend The Byrds. Ask 50 people to name a song by each.

 

The Heads were much more influential - They were a leading part of the new wave sound that started in the early 70s. Even Jool Herc has credited David Byrne as being influential in rap styles.

 

ELP - Sold almost 40 million albums in 8 years. They were a pioneer in the use of synthetic sound in rock & roll. They were one of the first bands to have their own record label. Had it not been for the untimely death of Jimi Hendrix, it would have been HELP. Which would have been the greatest band ever, bar none.

 

REM - Huge impact on the british side.

 

Tull - Just a personal favorite.

 

The Fleetwood Mac originated in the late 60s. When Peter Green was there. They were more popular than the Beatles in England. The song "Black Magic Woman" is originally a Fleetwood Mac song. Written by Peter Green, not Santana. Then in the 70s they exploded in the USA.

 

I left out Taste because they were really only popular in England, but if you want to here some incredible British blues influence down load Rory Gallagher or Taste.

 

Probably the most influential, was John Mayall & The Blues Breakers. But I treated him like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Members of the Bluesbreakers over the year were:

I have never understood the love for Kiss. I cannot stand their music and don't even think they are that talented.

My favorite is Led Zepplin hands down. Others I like... Black Sabbath, Boston, Eagles, Journey, The Who, Kansas, Alman Brothers, CCR, The Doors, U2, The Police, Nazereth, Guns N Roses, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Stone Temple Pilot, Creed.

The main reason KISS became so popular was because at their time they were pushing the envelope and doing something no one else was doing except for maybe Alice Cooper and a couple of others. They were pushing a heavier type of rock than what most were used to and it really caught on. The biggest thing KISS had going for them was their live shows, something KISS is known best for. Some of the greatest musicians of all time have been quoted to say that KISS was the best concert they had ever been too.

Perhaps. But when I sit down to listen to "Alive" or "Alive II," I don't have the benefit of the pyrotechnics — just the music. And both albums still sound great.

 

It's more a matter of personal taste: Either you dig it or you don't. Not much in-between with KISS.

I guess so because I just don't get it. I they sound horrible in studio and completely awlful live...Rock n Roll All Nite is like nails on a chalk board to me. Of coarse about any song that Paul Stanley sings is like that to me.

KISS is no where near my favorite band, but I still like to wake up every now and then and throw on Love Gun or something like that to get me going.

I do not believe this band as been listed yet...

 

CHEAP TRICK...

 

I know TTC has no argument here...But Personally I have to say anything after 1981 all shook up is not worth listening to...With the Possibility of the 1982 album one on one without Original bassist Tom Peterson...I still do not own that record...:thumb:
