Top 5 8th grade school teams in the state!

Featured Replies

LTMS should be pretty good. They finished 2nd last year in 6th grade (I completely understand entries for 6th grade was way down last year), plus Jordan Green has moved from Sayre to there this year. (Actually, LTMS's 8th grade team could be a sleeper as well if McFarland plays with them this year -- heard some rumblings he might just play at Dunbar.) Sayre, who won it last year, will be way down because I am hearing their top players are all moving up the ladder this year as Sayre's program is awful. (I am not trying to take anything away from Cunningham or Johnson, but they wouldn't move way up at most schools). Scott County -- with Portwood -- should be able to compete. A Barber kid from Rose Hill is supposedly going there as well, although I have no idea if he is any good. If I remember correctly, I think Elkhorn had a pretty decent 6th grade team last year.

I know nothing about any teams from southeastern KY, other than I know Meece has some good players in 7th grade.

Thanks for the update!

You would have to say that LTMS is the team to beat this year with Green going there. The southeast is pretty strong although not as strong as in the eighth grade.

Lincoln Co., Clinton Co., Meece, Johnson Central, Corbin, Russell Co., Hazard, and Wayne Co. are all pretty good teams. Christian Co. has a decent 7th grade team out west, but I don't know any of the other teams. It would be nice if someone from the western part of the state could give us some info. Same for Louisville (TonyDanza?? :D).

Garrard Middle School Cougars finished 10-1 and won the Salt River Conference regular season championship and playoff.

Defeated Boyle County twice, Danville twice, Mercer County, Lincoln County, Casey County, Clark-Moores, Foley and Jackson County. Only loss was to Rockcastle County.

I'm not sure how this middle school tournament is set up, but I can guarantee you it doesn't have all of the best teams in Kentucky participating.

Larry Morton is at LTMS also but I believe Braxton McFarland and Morton will be playing JV & Varsity at Dunbar.

I would also add Quin Richardson as one of the top point guards in the state from this class. I would also add to your list Jamal Clay from Louisville and Dominique Hawkins from Richmond.

I am curious as how many and whom are playing at the HS level this year from this very deep and talented class.

This is assuming these teams have not had big changes in their line up. But, we won't know until we start playing.

Lincoln has had no changes in their starting line up, but have added a nice shooting guard in Jacob Sheets. We still are starting the same 5 as last year, as far as I know (but what do I know?), and they are Carl Lewis Cummins, Shade Jacobs, Dustin Burchfield, Chris Luster, and Luke Hill. We have an excellent bench also, several of whom could be starting anywhere else in our conference.

I agree that Scott County would have to be the pre-season #1, but after that, like Rainman said, it's a toss-up between 6 or 7 others who could fall in right behind Scott Co.

Is it November 10th yet????????????:D

I can't believe there is a thread on top 8th grade teams in the state.

What's the difference in that and AAU or Freshman teams? They have their own state tourney. And FWIW, I was giving love to one of the teams from your neck of the woods, unless I've totally missed where you are located by your posts.

Clinton County finished 2nd in the middle school 6th grade state last season, not LTMS. Clinton's 8th grade could be a sleeper capable of beating a really good team. Ian Asher, a 5' 11" guard from near Indianapolis has moved in and is averaging about a point a minute. Clinton 8th is 4-0 with a 30 point a game margin of victory. Last season's 6th grade state runner-up squad has several players playing a ton of minutes on the 8th and some of them have really grown. Not the caliber of the 6-7 teams mentioned but much improved. Clinton's 6th and 7th should compete for the state title.

I think if our 7th graders (Johnson Co.)gel when they come together, they will be a force.

Southeastern Kentucky's top 8th grade teams....in alphabetical order. Most of these teams play each other through the season..."by tournaments or schedules". That should separate the top teams from the rest of the teams on this list. There are a few of these, teams that could be in the KBA's Championship game next February.

Bell Co.

Clay Co.

Lincoln Co.

Mc Creary Co.

Meece

Northern Pulaski

Knox Co.

South Laurel

Wayne Co.

Whitley Co.

Ive heard Harlan Co. could have a very nice 8 th grade team. So... I will add them to the mix. :thumb:

South Laurel, gets started next Thursday night at Barbourville and Tuesday week at Northern Pulaski... Northern Pulaski should be a very challenging game to start South's season. This game could start the separation of the top teams in the Southeastern, part of the State early. South's playing with out one of their better players,'' Sears for about 6 games. South, lost at Northern by 1 last year with out Sanders. Northern picked up a few players this year, so it should be a shoot out...:flame:

Warning: Please understand this is just my humble opinion...subject to change with out notice from time to time.

My bad .....

Believe it brother and feel free to join in and give us a preview of the Western KY 8th grade teams. This is all about providing information and building a little excitement for the upcoming season.

There's nothing better than watching exceptional athletes play the greatest game on this planet at any level.

Are you sure about Knox Co. that high because they played GMS last year at the KBA only won by 10 or so and GMS isn't even the best team in their school district.
