November 12, 200817 yr South Laurels, 8th grade struggles early...but pull away for a win over Northern Pulaski.
November 12, 200817 yr Lincoln 8th grade just beat the soup out of Wayne Co. 62-29. Obviously, it's early in the season, but I think that Lincoln is a top 3 team no doubt. Also, Mayfield is currenly undefeated and has played in 2 tournaments and won both. And this is without their most athletic presence underneath who is still about 4 weeks from returning. State tourney should be a terrific event this spring. I think Lincoln was somewhere in the argument as the best team even before they whipped Wayne. My question would be .... is this a testament to how strong Lincoln really is or did we all overrate Wayne? Scott County plays in a panorama this weekend at McNabb to start this season. They will play McNabb, LexCath and Mason County.
November 12, 200817 yr Author I think we rated Wayne to high. Their early maturity may have caught up with them. Wayne needs their other players to step up. I think our 6th (Clinton) is not as good as we thought. Two players can't carry a team agaist good compition. I am beginning to think a triangle and two is the standard middle school 6th grade defense. We need the kids that made shots in the past to step up. It amazes me how hard it is to make a shot when no one is guarding you.
November 13, 200817 yr My top 5 as of 11/13/08: Scott Co. Christian Co. Knox Co. S. Laurel Lincoln Co. The score of the Wayne Co. vs Lincoln Co. game really suprised me. I know what each has from last year and I tought it would be closer. Does Lincoln play Wayne again or was this a one time thing this season?
November 14, 200817 yr Gas is half of what it was when schools presented budgets in the summer. Most schools have a set price on mileage no matter what the gas price is during the year. Take for instance an athletic fund that is charged $1.50 a mile for a bus. If they are in the far part of WKY and it is a round trip of 500 miles. That is $750 for a bus for a 8th grade tournament. That is not counting the hotel and meals that would have to be bought.
November 14, 200817 yr They can travel with coaches and parents couldn't they? That is what we did last year.
November 14, 200817 yr Author We hold a tournament that all of the parents work and we use the proceeds from that to pay our way, including hotel rooms and food. We had a little left over to spend on a banquet. This year we will have to work harder because we are sending all 3 grades.

Its getting a gym to use that is tough.
November 15, 200817 yr They can travel with coaches and parents couldn't they? That is what we did last year. At a lot of schools they can only ride with their own parents or a school vehicle. They can not car pool because of liability.
November 16, 200817 yr Author I have to give it up for the 8th grade Clinton County boys after winning the Bowling Green Invitational and beating Moss Middle in the semifinals. Moss is the Warren Central middle program and were heavily favored to win the tournament. Clinton defeated Warren East middle in the finals to improve to 11-0 on the season. I would have to say we may be in that 8-9-10 spot. Ian Asher had 31 points in the win over Moss Middle.
