November 19, 200817 yr Lincoln 8th grade beats Lexington Cath in overtime 48 to 43. 7th grade won and our 6th grade lost.
November 19, 200817 yr Top five 8th grade teams as of 11/19/08: 1) Scott Co. 2) Christian Co. 3) S. Laurel 4) Knox Central 5) Lincoln Co. I have seen both Knox Central and S. Laurel play this year and as of right now I think S. Laurel is playing better basketball (and that is even with South missing one of their better players). It will be interesting to see the outcome of the South vs Knox game later in the season (Jan. 8 at Knox and Jan. 22 at South).

November 20, 200817 yr South Laurel, plays in McCreary Centrals tournament this weekend. The play Wayne Co. 1st game of the tournament. I know Bell Centrals, in the tournament and the should be a very solid team. This should be a interesting tournament with some good teams.
November 21, 200817 yr South Laurel's 6, 7, 8 sweeps North Laurel tonight.... What kind of size does SL have this season? I know they have the excellent guard play but would like to know more about this team as a whole. thanks

Bell County's grade school system keeps them from having a middle school team except for maybe an AAU team in the spring possibly. I think because of the lack of good coaching this has really hurt the numbers in basketball in Bell Co. IMO because so many kids are not taught how to play properly.

November 23, 200817 yr Author I think South Laurel defeated Wayne County by 8 in the McCreary County 8th grade tournament this morning. I am not sure who won but I know Wayne finished 3rd and South Laurel and Northern were playing in the championship game.

Some of South's players think they just have to show up to win. They beat Northern by 34 points last week at Northern...but it was a different day and game. Northern played their hearts out last night and played a very good game. Northern, is a good team with size and athleticism and you must play them hard.

They were solid but I didn't see anyone else that looked like a game changer. Of course our 6th looked like they had never played before the same night, so I hate to judge them on the one game. Northern has some size and they picked up the kid from Meece but I can't recall a guard that could keep Northern in a game at that level of play. WHo plays the point for Northern?

Johnson plays the point, wears #5. He is Northerns best athlete and hit some big threes last night. After South defeated Wayne Co yesterday morning they basically thought this tourny was over and they just had to show up. They played a very ugly game against Southern Pulaski yesterday and put together a late run to win that one. Against Northern in the championship, South had put 11 pts on the board at halftime and put up a whopping total of 15 at the end of the third..............When you shoot less than 10% you're not going to beat a bad team let alone a pretty good team as Northern is. I have followed this South group since the 4th-5th grade and last night was as bad an effort as I had ever seen from them and I know that Northern deserves some credit for that.

Middle school kids sure will make you scratch your head. :lol: One minute they play like they are trying to win a national championship and other days they just show up and go through the motions. Sounds like some great rivalries down south. Thanks for keeping us Northern folk posted on the exceptional talent down there.
