No, Raceland does not have any State Titles, the Rams playoff record is not a good one but here are some facts for you about Raceland's "only a couple" of good years.........

I don't have the history/numbers as far as how many winning seasons vs. losing sesons at Raceland right now but I would be willing to bet that there are far more winning seasons than losing seasons here.

 

I realize that you are an Ashland fan, I believe that Raceland fans have treated Ashland with nothing but respect on many threads/post on BGP and I know that I personally will continue to do that. I don't expect everyone to respect or even like Raceland. I would like to see some acknowledge what they have accomplished and it is far more than "a couple" of good seasons. Most all Ashland fans have given Raceland credit as well. Should you not want to that is fine. Good luck to your Tomcats.

Tonights game should be a dandy. Two teams with a long tradition and great community support. From a high school football fan perspective it doesn't get any better than this.

Well hopefully this year Raceland can win their first Regional title. I know you have pride in your school and that is great' date=' but didn't the last team to go undefeated for Raceland lose in the first round of the playoffs? Like I said Raceland has had some really good teams, but they have also had some really really bad ones, Russell and Ashland have had bad years, but 1 about every 20 is about the average for them. Even in down years sometimes Russell or Ashland still make it to a Regional championship game. I think you all will make it to Louisville this year, I hope so anyways. When I see people bragging about tradition, they should do it on a week when they are not going up against Russell. win or lose tonight, it means nothing if Russell wins the next 25 meetings between the teams. NKY is a different breed, their district #4 is sometimes as good as or better than most teams in our area. I know when you get deeper, you play Belfry and Breathitt, so don't throw that at me. But who have you really played in the 1st two rounds of the playoffs in recent years?

Absolutely!!!!!!! I don't know how many times we've made the trips to NKY. My son's last game as a senior was at Beechwood.

You are 100% correct. I'd say Ashland has the most difficult road in our area, though. They first have to make the playoffs in a district that includes Johnson Central, Lexington Bryan Station, Woodford County, and Montgomery County. Then they get the reward of Highlands or Covington Catholic in round 1 or 2!

 

Russell's toughest test before getting to Belfry or Breathitt County has been Mason County. Granted, they are no Northern Kentucky team, but they are pretty good. Since Russell didn't win their district this year, they get to play at Belfry in round 2. Belfry should be amped up for that one since Russell has beaten Belfry in the playoffs the last 2 times they played including a 19-0 shutout at Belfry a couple of years ago.

 

Raceland's playoff road used to be more difficult than Russell's, but they have it better now that they don't have to face the Northern Kentucky teams in rounds 1 and 2. Actually, this year's road to Louisville for Raceland looks quite similar to Russell's path the past few years. It's been awhile since I checked the other teams seedings, but if my memory serves me correctly, Raceland gets Clinton County at home, the winner of Fairview/Campbellsville at home, then either LCA at home or at Williamsburg (depending on who wins that one), and then at Hazard for the right to play Beechwood for the state title. That's not such a bad playoff road.

 

Still, though, the team I feel bad for is Ashland. Their playoff road is mission impossible. :-)

Up until the recent realignment The Rams might have been better off moving up to 2A.

I figured it would be. It's just been a few years since I've been in there.

Russell will keep the Raceland offense off of the field with long sustained drives. Raceland will not be able to hang with the Russell offense. Russell will ware the Raceland defense down with 3-5 yards at a time. Heck, the Raceland starters have not played four quarters in four weeks, they will be worn out come the fourth quarter. Russell is well conditioned and will bury Raceland in the fourth quarter.

 

 

I have to disagree with the last sentence though, I don't think this game will be that close. Unless you think 21 points in close. Russell is Russell and Raceland is, well, little brother to Russell, and you know what happens when little brother picks a fight with big brother. It normally ends with little brother going crying to mommy. And, that is what I expect to happen tomorrow.

 

I really can't believe that some of the Russell fans are playing the "We're the underdog" card here. That is not what we do, we tell people that we are going to beat them, then we go and beat them, and we then tell them that we beat them. Come on Russell, stand up and tell Raceland that we are Russell and they are not.

 

Are you serious? I think you need to talk to ryanparker & figure out what's about to happen tomorrow night. He seems to be one of the few objective Russell posters on this board.

 

Raceland is in 10 times better shape than Russell, & will have no problems staying on the field all night punishing the Devils, who I can assure you will be sucking for air by the 3rd quarter.

If the Raceland defense gets tired, it will be because the offense is scoring so much that they have to go back out on the field quickly.

Do you know this to be fact? He tried to play a little last week and apparently decided he couldn't go. If Bailey can't play, then this does remove a big play threat on offense. As you indicated, though, the biggest problem without him appears to be punting. From what we saw last week, Russell might as well go for it on every 4th down rather than punt the ball 10 yards.

Ashland is opposite Highlands district.

Russell used to be opposite Boyle Co. and Lex Cath.

Opposite Belfry now.

If Raceland would have played up to 2A they would have had first round games against either of those teams assuming they would have been in Russell's district, so again, they would exit first round.

 

I highly doubt #4 in Beechwood's district has ever been better than Russell or Ashalnd, except maybe the 97 season for Russell or last year for Ashland, and that is still doubtful.
