Hope the Devil's have been having a good week of practice and come out with a real attitude.

 

 

From what I've been hearing the Devils are having a great week of practice. I thought that this would be very important in their chances to win tonight. Russell can win this game if the play great and focused. They have a great staff who has faced many big games throughout their career. The brain tells me that Raceland will win from what I've seen of these 2 teams but there are many different factors in this game. You never know what's going to happen in a rivalry game. Sometimes you're so confident that a team will win and because of the rivalry issue both team surprise you and the outcome is different than expected. The 3 losses that Russell has this year are against quality teams and they are still a good team. I think they have to play flawless tonight but they CAN when this game with a good game plan and I think they'll need a couple turnovers. I also think that they must dominate time of possession. That will be key for a Devils win. Anything is possible in a rivalry game. It should be fun and interesting. I wish I could be there.

Very well said,i hope it is a great game.If Russell can move the ball on the ground,they will eat up the clock and limit the Raceland possesion's.Hard to score if you dont have the ball.It will be won or lost in the trenches tonight i think,if Russell running game is stopped it will be a long night for them,if they sustain long drive's it will be anyones game.

I have figured that out now. I must admit that I fell for his bait. I'm done with him though. It's clear to me now that he's just trying to stir the pot on here. :thumb:

Now I'm not considered a Raceland person but even I reconize that the Rams have a great tradition in Raceland. Just a good couple of teams? That' laughable!! Just look at their record against Ashland over the past 20 years. I'm not sure exactly what it is but they have quite a few wins at Putnam. That tells me that they have a pretty good program there in Raceland. A small school like that is not supposed to beat a big school like Ashland consistently unless the have a tradition. Raceland is usually the team doing the manhandling against most area schools. This post is just laughable.

 

The only thing they haven't managed to come up with that Russell and Ashland have is success in the playoffs. Maybe this will be the year they break through. I hope so.

 

If they do, however, manage to pull off a state title appearance this year, then the pressure will be on them to do it again and again and again, etc., because at that point 6-3 seasons become "down" years as this one is for Russell. Raceland fans should relish this possible breakthrough season, because this is probably as "fun" as it gets. The climb to the top of the mountain is probably a lot more fun than the view after you get there!

Yeah, you're right. The playoff success isn't there at Raceland, you definately have to say that. But not many schools would have much success either if they always had to play Beechwood in the very first round. That's a extremely tough start to the playoffs. A three hour trip and then playing the usual state title favorite.

 

You tend to see that in all championship programs from Russell to UK. Once you win it all, you're expcted to win it all every year. People tend to forget how hard it was just to get there, let alone win it. As I watched Russell 2005 playoffs from the sidelines, I tried to just take it all in and realize that I may never see this again. That was good as it gets. So many things has to go your way just to get there and if even 1 of those things goes against you, you're ging home. It's over! So yeah, Raceland should relish and enjoy every second of this season because they may just get there and trst me when I say that you want to remember every single second of the journey.

When I see people bragging about tradition, they should do it on a week when they are not going up against Russell.

 

win or lose tonight, it means nothing if Russell wins the next 25 meetings between the teams. Russell has some very very talented players coming up, as does Ashland, I believe area football is going back to where it was 4-10 years ago as far as talent level.

 

Dad, I have no idea what your problem is in giving people credit for anything and a not going to try and figure it out. I will just address a couple of staements in your post that for whatever reason you saw fit to make. That is fine, you have right to post what you want but just remember so do others on here and thiose opinions mattrer just as much as yours. So with all due respect and for the statements that I have highlighted...................

 

1.) Yes, the last unbeaten regular season team at Raceland I believe was beaten in the 1st round and your point is:confused:.

As for the really good years and really bad years I believe that all schools have those, For a school as small as Raceland to have as as many GOOD years that they have had imo says alot about that school and tradition. There are far bigger schools that haven't had a fraction of the wins and good seasons. district titles that Raceland has had.

Ashland and Russell are two that have been blessed with great traditions as well. I don't think that you will find any Raceland poster trying to cut those programs like imo you are Raceland. That is your option though, I personally don't choose to insult or put down anyones program.

 

2.) As for "bragging about tradition", why should a school and it's fans only talk about it on certain weeks?

I don't know about you and how you feel about your Tomcats and/or Red Devils but I personally don't just brag on my team when it is convinient or when we are winning. Most people at Raceland don't have any use for "Bandwagon" fans that just cheer and brag when their team is winning. I have always said to people down here that if you are going to cut your team down when they are losing then don't come back around when they are winning an claim to be a loyal fan. Should you feel different, that is fine just please don't critisze people that son't feel that way. I prefer to keep it positive myself....negativity breeds negativity.

 

3.) :confused::lol: Win or lose tonight means that we win or lose tonight, not sure what you are getting at but tonight has nothing to do with the next 25 years. Should a teams fans only support them if they win a certain number or pct. of games or something?

As for Ashland and Russell having some good talent coming up....I am glad to hear it. I like to see all schoools have and develop good talent and good kids. I can also tell you that Raceland also as some very good talent coming up as well, the Rams JV is also unbeaten this season.

Russell does not have to play a flawless game. Just limit penalties and hope Raceland tries to go to the air a few too many times. This is Raceland's Super Bowl so maybe their high emotion will drain them. McGlone's teams never seem to ge too high or low and maybe that will play to their advantage.
