Russell is a suburb of Flatwoods (or is it the other way around?)...still both are in Greenup Co.

I understand they are undefeated, and I think they have a decent team. But, they are not undefeated by much. I think Ashland should have beaten them (I was there), and came very close, and I think LCA should have beaten them, I understand Raceland only won due to a bad officials call (I was not there).

 

To me this is one of only three tough games for Raceland, they were lucky in the first two, I don't think they will be as lucky in the third.

 

 

 

Raceland's line is OK and do a decent job, but they are not nearly as tough as Russell's line. I think Russell's line will man handle them. Just my opinion.

 

 

 

I just don't think that he throws well under pressure, and he will have to do that against Russell's defensive line. Plus, he hasn't faced a secondary as good as what he will see Friday. They will pick him at least twice. He is unproven in my book.

The only comment you made that was correct was the one stating how nice the Raceland fans are win or lose. If you think Russell's line will destroy Raceland's line make sure you look me up at the game. Russell line was man handled by Ashland, and Raceland ran up and down the field on Ashland all night. If not for the 2 fumbles Raceland would have won by at least 2 touch downs. We scored 34 points on a very good LCA team in the first half. Russell is very well coached and has a lot of talent, but to come on here and say Russell's line will dominate Race:thumb:land, you're dreaming. But I'm sure it will all play out in the end. I understand that Bailey will be back full strength for this game. Is that true? If so, Raceland will have trouble with him, Cordle, and Abrams. If not, Raceland will have trouble with just Abrams and Cordle. Either way Raceland will have trouble.

Friday is almost here, im starting to get goosebumps just thinking about it.I wish i was out there playing under those lights, but im sure there will be plenty of talent on both sides of the feild. But i just wanna wish both teams good luck and that they will give their all and come out injury free. Although i do bleed the ol' orange and black, im looking for this to be a great game with great players being cheered on by great fans!

I tell you right now, Russell will hand Raceland's backside to them. I watch a lot of North-Eastern Kentucky football, and Raceland in not up to the challenge.

 

Raceland's offensive line is not strong enough, and Boyles makes to many bad throws. Raceland's defense will not have an answer for Russell's running game.

Man, what Russell team are you watching? The 6th grade team? Because they have all the qualities that you've mentioned but the varsity surely does not. First off, I have ties to Russell so I'm speaking from my brain and not my heart. I don't know how you can say the things that you're saying about Russell unless you're looking through maroon and gold glasses. When has Russell's line dominated anyone this year? I saw them play Lewis County and they didn't even handle them at all!!! You say that Raceland's line is just OK? Are you kidding me? That is one of their biggest strengths this year. That is what I believe gives them a shot at winning the state title. Every challenge that has been placed before them, they have met head on and succeeded every single time. This is a very tough Raceland line. I see probably 4 times as many football games as the average fan every year and let me tell you that Raceland's line is one of the best I've seen this year. As far as Russell's secondary being so great.....what makes them so great? What have they done this year that makes you think that? In case you didn't notice, the Rams have 2 of the best RBs in the area. Definately the hardest RBs in the area and I'd say the state. I'm not bashing Russell at all, like I said, I have some great ties to Russell and some really great memories. Ijust don't think this team has what it takes to beat the Rams and I don't see how anyone who has seen them play this year could say the things you've said and actually believe them. If you were saying this at the start of the year, I'd agree whole-heartedly. There doesn't seem to be any leadership on this team. Nobody to get in someone's face when they get out of line or gets lazy as this team definately seems to do quite often. They don't seem to have any heart and that's the most disappointing thing of it all. They have talent but without heart, you have the year like their having right now. I hope they can turn it around before the playoffs start. I really hope so. From what Ive seen of the Devils and Rams this year, both teams are headed in opposite directions and it may get ugly in Russell friday night. I really hope I'm wrong. Since you have seen both teams play, let's get into some more specifics. Do you anticipate Raceland to simply line up and run straight at Russell? If they are as strong up front as everyone says, then I don't see what Russell could do to slow them down. Do you see the game as a lopsided physical mismatch or is it a game Russell could be competitive in if they show up with a different attitude?

 

My gut feeling is that Russell had better come up with some creative ways to put some points on the board Friday. Given the strength of Raceland's line, it is unlikely their usual running game will find success, so they probably need to come up with something a little "out of the box" to catch Raceland off guard. Russell is known for sticking to the same offensive game plan no matter what, though, so the chances they come out with a different offensive mindset is remote. Also, it would be nice if Russell's special teams play could deliver some big plays like perhaps some good kickoff returns, recover an onsides kick, etc....but again, I haven't seen a lot of that capability either in watching Russell this season.

 

With all that being said, I think Russell had better hope they can get some Raceland turnovers. I think it is going to take some unique happenings for Russell to have a shot in this one. What do you think?

Man, your name speaks for itself. Russell's backs are talented, but so are Ashland's and LCA's. If my memory serves me correct, Raceland held Hayden (LCA's running back), to 45 yards rushing. A for cry from the 220 ypg. he is averging. Ashland scored 16 total points on us and ran hog wild on Russell. So, I don't believe stopping the run is to much of a concern for Raceland. But your opinion is your opinion, You can come on here and dog Raceland's line all you want. I hope you're right with your food drive prediction, that way the Ram's will leave Devil land with 2 victories in one night. That strategy is certainly in their toolbox, but there will be a myriad of formations thrown at the Devils in this game…if the finesse game isn’t productive, the power game will be. Now, if Russell actually DOES show up with a warrior’s attitude, things may get interesting. Since I have only seen one of Russell’s game this season, I don’t know if the Devils have that in them.

Creativity and Russell just don’t belong in the same sentence together. I consider Russell to be very much like Ironton the in regard that they don’t do a whole lot of different things, but what few things they do, they do it to perfection.

I think it would benefit Russell if Raceland tried more of a finesse game. Not saying that Raceland cannot be successful throwing the ball all around the field, but I think Russell has a better shot of matching the speed of Raceland than they do the power. I have watched most of the Russell games this season and it hasn't appeared that they have responded well in games where they have been challenged. I hope they are undergoing some hypnotism this week leading up to the game. :-)

 

If there is a bright spot for Russell, it might be that they are coming off playing 2 pretty good teams in Simon Kenton and Mason County while Raceland has played against 4 bad teams in a row. I know it is a stretch, but perhaps this will help in some way?

I have always believed in the old Hal Mumme strategy when your team is a considerable underdog. Might as well go down with both guns blazing! Russell has actually kicked onside with success in the past in big games against Belfry. Also, it seems that as conservative as Coach McGlone is with his play calling, he sometimes shows the tendency to be risky such as going for it on 4th down with unfavorable field position when Russell is going up against an opponent that should beat them. As critical as some people are about his play calling, I like those tendencies.

I think that everyone on this thread (Russell and Raceland fans)would love to know where you learned all your 'football' knowledge? It must have been in a surf shop, because you are so far off base with your insight, it is laughable. I expect a great football game but to insult Raceland's line as 'subpar' and to think that Russell will run up and down the field after the way Raceland has shut down other teams rushing games.
