Raceland is not up to the challenge? Dude…they are undefeated at this point. What can you reference which would indicate the Rams will let off the accelerator for this game?

 

Raceland’s offensive line is not strong enough? Granted the Rams have a two headed monster with Denton and Carver running like a breakaway freight train…but do you think those backs can do what they do without an effective line? Raceland averages 40 points a game…nuff said there.

The “Rams have no answer for a running game”? I would question the quality of Russell’s ground game before doubting the Raceland D. The Rams have allowed 13 points per outing thus far. A measly 247 yards difference separates these two teams in terms of total rushing output…Russell has that advantage…but…they have gained it against much weaker teams than Raceland has faced.

Not all Raceland fans are overconfident. I know they could very well have 2 losses now. But they don't. I think they can beat Russell,but it will be a battle. Close either way. I hope for a championship, but LCA will be a a hard game and Beechwood is,well Beechwood. Not saying Rams can't win it all, but Beechwood is a lot better than anyone Raceland has played this year.

This is a HUGE game for both teams!

 

For Russell it all comes down to confidence. Russell is in an unusual position of doubt, and with a second round playoff matchup at Belfry looming, a loss here could be devastating, especially if they continue to make the same mistakes. A win over a very, very good Raceland squad will give them the confidence to take down the Pirates potentially.

 

For Raceland, a win will give them a much needed thrust into what should be a long playoff run. Whereas Russell is searching for confidence, Raceland has a chance to be propelled by confidence.

Raceland has not played a tougher schedule imo. A few weeks ago you could say that. Not now, Russell's last two games have been against quality opponents. SK has really improved, and Mason is a very solid team aslo. Racelands only challenge other than Ashland is LCA who has been manhandled by Corbin and Breathitt and been shown not to be that great of a team.

I do, however, agree with you that Russell's schedule is about the same as Raceland's schedule...mostly no competition with the exception of a couple of games.

I wondered that myself. They must have formed a collective pact to let their silence speak for the confidence they have in the Rams destroying Russell this week. :-) Their presence would certainly make the thread more entertaining.

Off the topic of who is actually going to win the game...I saw on another site where someone predicted that this will be the largest crowd at Russell ever. I see the weather looks good for Friday night so that is good news. No matter who wins or loses, one positive thing about the game is that it should be the kind of environment that makes us all high school football fans in the first place.

Although Russell (6-3) has played one more game than Raceland (8-0) this season, the cumulative records of each teams opponents is Russell 29 – 45 and Raceland 30 – 36. Granted, there is not an ocean’s difference between these collective totals, Raceland HAS played a more difficult schedule.

Funny you would simply assume that, first, there is a collective silence and secondly, picture it being due to a “confidence they have in the Rams destroying Russell this week”. Over the course of this season, I believe you will find nothing but respect for every single opponent Raceland has faced…including the Red Devils. If anything, Raceland tends to go overboard on the “respect your opponent” scale.

 

When I peruse this thread, I find several Raceland posters…In fact, there seems to be as many Russell fans as there are Raceland ones. Now that you mention it….where ARE all the Russell faithful? Should I follow your logic and think it’s due to them being fearful of the outcome of this game? No way.

I understand they are undefeated, and I think they have a decent team. But, they are not undefeated by much. I think Ashland should have beaten them (I was there), and came very close, and I think LCA should have beaten them, I understand Raceland only won due to a bad officials call (I was not there).

 

To me this is one of only three tough games for Raceland, they were lucky in the first two, I don't think they will be as lucky in the third.

Raceland's line is OK and do a decent job, but they are not nearly as tough as Russell's line. I think Russell's line will man handle them. Just my opinion.

I just don't think that he throws well under pressure, and he will have to do that against Russell's defensive line. Plus, he hasn't faced a secondary as good as what he will see Friday. They will pick him at least twice. He is unproven in my book.

As for the respect aspect, I have to agree with you on that. Even though I don't normally post that much, I do read a lot on BGP, and I thing that the Raceland fans are very nice no matter if they win or loose.:thumb:

I don't know if this is indication of the respect factor but the Russell people booed the Raceland people in CHURCH on Sunday morning as we were promoting the food drive for River Cities Harvest. :irked: I was like...WOW.

That's not true. LCA got a first down after the call and looked like they were going to score but their Quarterback threw an interception to seal the deal. The Personal Foul had nothing to do with it.

In reference to the above two quotes about Russell's line...do you know something the rest of us don't? Are the players on the Russell line going to come out motivated this week or something? I haven't seen Russell's line collectively manhandle anyone this year! I also haven't seen any threat of the linemen getting into the offensive backfield on a consistent basis and applying pressure to the QB. I hope you are right, but I would just like to hear some facts that back up these claims.

I agree with you about this one. Most I have talked to expect Raceland to win easily. In fact, there is no one that I have talked to that expects Russell to win. Heck, look at the results of the poll! I think it is safe to say that our entire area not only is predicting Raceland to win, but WANTS Raceland to win. I think that can be surmised from the tone of many of the posts in this thread. :-) Success breeds contempt. I don't know if that is actually going to help Russell win, though.
