October 20, 200817 yr Okay, I don't know how many of you all have seen the clip from the South Carolina versus LSU football game in Columbia, SC, where the referee basically gives USC quarterback Stephen Garcia the forearm shiver. After looking at it several times it seriously 'appears' as if the referee shuffles his feet to the right, readies himself and then extends the forearm into the unsuspecting South Carolina QB. Come to find out this SEC referee is actually a former University of Kentucky linebacker! He is originally from Kentucky, was all state two times in high school and went on to play LB at Kentucky from 1967 -1970. I'm not going to say this guy had an alterior motives or whatever, but the more you look at this play the more intriguing it is, especially considering the timing of the play, the location on the field (redzone) and how close the score was and ended up being!
October 20, 200817 yr Author Is that real? Absolutely, not doctored at all. They discussed it extensively on ESPN's College Football Live this afternoon, where analyst Jesse Palmer kept reiterating how he "had never seen anything like this before".
October 20, 200817 yr Author that is unusually good form for a ref. Good job. His name is Wilbur Hackett, 3 year starter at linebacker for UK in the late 60s and team captian in 1969. Played under coaches Charlie Bradshaw and John Ray while at UK.
October 20, 200817 yr On the radio, everyone is saying it was intentional. I saw it live too, and I thought he probably just thought he was going to get hit (which we was) and braced harder than he expected. I don't think it was intentional to hit the QB.
October 20, 200817 yr Definitely looks like it was intentional...The ref should be suspended...No call for that stuff.
October 20, 200817 yr PTI said that the SEC was quoted as saying that the ref was "in position". Oh well, he helped LSU cover for me!

Not bad for an older dude. I hope to be able to knock down college football players in my 50s/60's with such ease.
