South Carolina QB Tackled by the Referee?

Featured Replies

I can't believe Spurrier isn't upset. The ump should've never been in that position he should've been backing away from the play.

I didn't see the game, but I believe SC scored a couple of plays later. He might have been more upset if the outcome was different.

Me and my roommate were just talking about the same thing. He shuffled and just blasted him. I couldnt stop laughing the first time that I saw this.

The first time? I have watched it 10 times and laughed just as hard all 10 times. That's the funniest ref video I've ever watched. It was like the Miller Lite commercial where the ref was tackling everybody. Awesome.

Looks to me like the qb decided to cut into the ref instead of the on coming tackler. The ref just braced himself for the hit when he saw it was coming. The qb saw the LSU player coming and cut towards the ref right before the LSU player hit him.

You apparently aren't a ref then. Because if it comes down to it then you better get knocked over because refs aren't supposed to tackle players if they feel like they want too in order to avoid from getting hit like you are saying. You can back him as much as you want but you already agreed that he lowered his shoulder into the player which is half of what made the play intentional to begin with.

Classic.

Go big blue, he saw an oportunity and took it.

It was a solid hit. I saw it live and it looked like he started trying to get out of the way but when he realized he'd guessed the wrong direction it was hit or be hit - and he laid a good one on that QB. Funny stuff. You know the QB heard about that one in the locker room... "Dude the 60 year old ref FLATTENED YOU!" I can hear it now.

Actually, the fans at BW3's weren't ready to go home yet....

Good one!

The ref lowered his shoulder!

Amazing, he watched the QB the whole time, and went at him

Wilbur was a classmate and friend of mine at UK. We played a whole lot of basketball together in the off season but I must say he was way wrong to extend himself and make contact with the QB. I don't think he ever weighed more than 185 and was a starting LB in the SEC. He hit as hard as anyone I have ever seen. Had the heart of a lion.

Old habits never die.

Les Miles comments were hilarious.

"You gotta wrap him up when you hit him."

If the ref really wanted to stop a drive, its easier to do it with a flag than your shoulder!!

Its not nearly as funny though :thumb:

This was funny. I think the ref was a "little" overzealous in his attempt to protect himself. From the multiple views of the clip, I don't think this contact affected the result of the play.

Probably should discuss how to avoid contact and positioning with the ref, but otherwise no harm, no foul.
