I could not agree with you more. The rules are what they are. Lets just focus on what AAU basketball should be about, developing better basketball players and even more importantly, better MEN!!

Your comment is strange. When is playing a sport at the middle or high school level (school or AAU), not about winning????? A school team of 7th graders could all be kids who should be in the 8th grade and so on and so on and so. Why are their no rules regarding that? Because, as I've said before, as long as you are eligible by KHSAA regulations to play athletics your senior year of high school - it doesn't matter how old or what grade they should be in.

WOLFPACK Sweep tonight at 8:40 at SOAS. Both Wolfpack teams that played at 8:40 won their respective games. Court 1 was the Meiman 8th grade team beating the Warriors by a couple in OT and Court 2 was the Geiman 7th grade team beating the 8th grade Outlaws by 1.

 

If the Geiman 7th grade team has all their players, they might pull the upset in the league tournament?????????:sssh:

I suggest everyone else sign up at the local Upward league then, wear your color coordinated wristband, and then get your very own trophy at the end of the year.

 

Last I checked, the score was being kept for a reason. The rules are the rules, plain and simple. I have news for all the AAU bashers, the teams that have the best players on virtually every high school team in our great Commonwealth have kids who play or played some form of AAU basketball. The best baseball players play baseball all summer, and in the fall. The best football players attend camps and condition in the offseason. You want to play at the highest level, you have to play after your season ends. That season has rules.

 

FYI, the grade exception rule has to be drawn somewhere. If you don't like it, AAU headquarters would welcome the call since they are continually trying to make the machine work smoother and give kids more opportunities.:thumb:

Wolfpack 8th escaped with a win as this one could have been over in regulation with them on the losing side. Warriors missed 8 FT's in 4th period and were at the line with 1.5 ticks left and 2 shots tie ballgame. Missed both of them and so they went to OT. With that said Wolfpack hit their shots when they needed them and deserved to win in OT. Final was 42 to 38 I believe.

 

I think the Warriors showed they can beat a team that gets really good talent from all over. The Wolfpack are very good and very long and athletic. This game was neck and neck the entire game. Wolfpack had the ball with 30 sec left in regulation and wound the clock down only to turn it over out front with 5 sec left. Warriors took it the length but couldnt conver the layup nor the FT's with 1.5 ticks left.

 

In OT Morgan (Gallatin Co stud) nailed a big 3 with hand in his face to start it off. Warriors were playing catchup most of OT and had a chance to tie with 4 sec left and the ball at halfcourt down 3. They throw it to their ungaurded center on the block and he lays it in for 2 pts instead of kicking it to a 3 pt shooter. Game ends with WArriors fouling and Uebel nailing a couple meaningless FT's with 1 sec left.

 

Pavy and Mieman had very nice first halves and Michael Beuter for the Warriors played phenomenally well. He had 16pts for the Warriors and had 0 turnovers against a very tough Wolfpack defense.

 

Basically 2 very good teams going at it ending in OT. Warriors showed some toughness and grit against a very talented ballclub. I hope they meet again in the tournament.

I agree Spindoc, as much as I will agree that a 15 yr old has an advantage over a 13 yr old I say lace em up and play ball. It is what it is and if you dont like it then go play at the YMCA and take your 8 inch trophy at the end of the year for participation. AAU is for kids that want to play the best and WIN!!!

Again, the line had to be somewhere. Where do you suggest? I'd love it to be 4. There's a kid I'd love to have play for me but is 6 months too old, and would be a grade exception. If you get that rule changed, please do so before the 14U AAU state tourney.

Because they are admitting that an older kid probably has an advantage and only allowing 3. If they didnt then every AAU squad would track down 10 Grade exemption kids and roll with that. It is what it is. Go to Nationals one time and see how those kids' ages are tracked, you would be amazed. Lace em up and play ball.

Tied with a minute to go with Flash, seemed like one of the three officials took it upon himself to be the show... Not sure why this game had three officials but it made the game worst at the end... Those corner courts are too small for three officials and 10 players... It was a great game that the players should have got to decide but didn't go that way... Answer this, how can an official take a point off the board, when the official book and scoreboard (SOAS employee) had it right?

The official can't - Only the individual working the "official book" can change the score after conferring with the officials. The official in question likes to be the center of attention. I was also curious as to what happened to have 3 officials on the floor. Very interesting???????

Interesting for sure... We'll have to see if the Bulls get an explanation from the Head guy? Bulls have parent keeping the book as well as a back-up and they both got it right with the table but the official saw it the other way... Flash played a great game; don't want to take anything away from them... Bulls had a chance to put it away...

That 8th grade (U14) AAU SOAS league sounds very competitive with 5 or 6 teams winning at on any given nite. The U13 league is dominated by the Wildcats (Barker) team and U12 by the Omega (Pangallo) team.

 

AAU IMO is a great way to develop kids beyond the school arena.

Some of the AAU teams/coaches are about winning with high school principles. I love it when I see AAU teams at an early age/grade play man to man defense knowing that a zone would probably work better.

Not bashing AAU-I get there has to be a cut off somewhere, just didn't know if there was some reason why it didn't match up with high school eligibility (Aug 1st instead of September 1st). I have noticed that all states are not the same even on this issue as some states have it worded that you can't turn 20 and be eligible for high school athletics. Are there any state tournaments that are based on grade only or age only?
