AAU Basketball

Suns lost to Wolfpack in the semi's. As for the Refs at Sports Plus, I don't know why they wear whistles around their necks. They don't use them. Games where very physical. I know Sports Plus starts under new ownership tonight at midnight. I know he is getting rid off most of the refs that call games up there.

Maybe cleaning house will help. IMO SOAS ref's have a tendency to call everything (like 9th region) and the BCI can let too much go(similar to KBA). I've witnessed some physical play during some state AAU games.

The big kid at Wayne is much more skilled and taller than the big kid at Scott County, I can't remember the kid from Northern Kentucky. The kid at Wayne stayed back this season. He was at Monroe County last season. He had 31 points and 22 rebounds agaist us and we lost to Wayne by 7. If you will remember we rolled untouched through the BCI 5th grade state last season. Believe me, Wayne is the best team in the 6th grade. We played extremely well in that game.

Dalton is having all kinds of problems with his knees and is only a shell of the player you saw last season. If he gets healthy he is the best 6th grade guard in the state, right now, he's not close. His latteral quickness is what makes him special and right now he has none. He will get healthy however.

Understood. In high school you can have a whole team full of exemptions as long as they are 19 by Aug 1st of their senior year. I believe I there are some high school teams in KY with several kids that are 19 some or most of their senior year.

In the end..... just play. I will say that kids held back and playing against younger players, at a young age, have an advantage. The older they get that physical advantage slips away as they all mature.

Is there a requirement for AAU coaching? In soccer, a "select" coach must pass a certain liscencing test, and the higher level of play, the higher liscence is needed.... I've just noticed that a large number of AAU coaches have very little knowledge of the rules...

I need some help, who are the top 10/u AAU teams you have seen so far and which division will they be playing in?

By high school, the majority have matured to the same level. That is not typically not the case in fifth thru eighth grades.

An 18 or 19 year old's physical makeup is definitely different than a 17 year old! In fact if we polled the board, most people would say they grew in height after they turned 18. Not by much, but still a difference.

4th grade Wolfpack team won the Holiday Tournament at Sports Plus in Cincinnati last night. Beat the Friars Club by one point. The 5th grade Wolfpack got beat. Can't remember the name of the team that beat them. Coach for the Wolfpack got tossed in the second half.

I think the name of the team that won the 5th grade tourney was Apache. They won by 5. The Wolfpack started out slow and got down 10 to 0 but made a nice comeback until the ultra-sensitive ref teed up the coach 2 times for pretty much nothing. That and too many missed foul shots sealed the game for the Apache. Congrats to the Apache. They are a good team and seemed like nice kids.

NKYWarriors 14U have two game this sunday to finish their regular season at SOAS. They play OldSpice Redzone and Wolfpack (Warning), one being a makeup game. Once the season concludes I am sure they will be looking for some nice tournaments to enter. If anyone has a link to a good site for tourneys in Feb/March/April please post. I am hearing HOOPS, Indy Fieldhouse, etc.

thanks

All good teams. Many played in the Scott County tournament a few weeks ago. Omega won the tournament but the Wolfpack was probably the best team there. They pulled out of the tournament on the last day. Before pulling out they beat Omega, Central KY Tigers, and the Scott County Wolfpack in pool play. The Ville may be the team to beat but the Wolfpack, Omega, and the Central KY Tigers are not far behind.

What was the reason Wolfpack pulled out of the tournament? Seems pretty lame to pay all that money to pull out at the last second. I would guess the guys running the tournament were not very happy.

The team to beat from Northern KY is the NKY Wildcats. They are also the defending state champions. I am not sure if they will play DI or DII but they have a very well rounded team.

I have seen this Omega team play. They are very good and play extremely hard. What are their plans for state D1 or D2 and will they compete at Nationals? It appears they have some kids that can really play. Give me your insight.

The Bulls play the Knicks this weekend at SOAS. Should be a good game. The Knicks have some talent and I think their record should be better than it is!! Hopefully, the Bulls decide to play team ball.

Any info on NKY Wildcat player names? I think I may have seen this team play as well. Who coaches them?

Charlie Hawkins is the head coach...:thumb:

I believe 5 of his players were playing in the Dayton Tournament on the Sunday of the Georgetown Tournament semi's and championship.
