I think the left needs to be very careful how they respond. If they call Palin "shrill", it will backfire big time. Campbell Brown is talking about it on CNN right now. Harry Reid just released a statement and referred to Palin as "shrill and sarcastic" I would not use the word "shrill" at all to describe her delivery.

I think someone needed to declaw her ... she was brillant at times and downright catty at times.

Given all that she had been through in the past week, I think most folks will give her one speach where she is the attack dog. If she keeps that up, the mocking and condescending routine will wear very thin. The little daughter was the highlight of the evening.

You could write me a great speech, with all the skills of Abraham Lincoln, but I would butcher it.

:lol: Democrats and the media praised Obama for picking Biden as his attack dog. In light of all the disgusting personal attacks she endured since Friday and the condescending comments Obama himself has made about her being nothing but a small town mayor overseeing 50 employees, her tone was very appropriate and her words were very restrained.

Now that is a very fair post. And I agree with you that if she continues the mocking tone that it will wear very thin. We'll find out in the coming months if that is the real Palin or whether it was just in response to the pretty unfair personal attacks that have been made against her the past couple of days (actually, I think she had to come out in the aggressive the way she did in response to the attacks to show she is no wall flower, even if that is not her normal nature).

Going negative does deliver, but I would almost reserve that for advertisements (especially of the third party variety) and surrogates. Going negative does backfire, especially when it is blatant, and tonight it was. And tonight featured an audience that, at least most of them, wouldn't be paid to listen to the Rush Limbaugh show.

 

And you were right on the Democratic side. They attacked, to be sure. But, if you remember, every attack was prefaced with "John McCain is a great war hero; he should be respected; John McCain is a good friend of mine; he has served us admirably, but I disagree with his policies and direction." Now, I'm not naive, but this kind of rhetoric dampens the blow, takes off the personal edge, and primes people to think "yeah, I like John McCain but I don't really agree with his stance on that," which is the first of three thoughts they have before they vote for Obama. The Republicans were visceral tonight, mocking even, and it won't play well with voters.

 

The clips I've seen from the Democratic convention were very mocking and of the low blow variety. I expect I'll see the same from the republicans. Being how few people watch the conventions from start to finish I doubt if any speeches other than the two candidates for president will have much effect one way or the other.
