September 4, 200818 yr All of the speakers have mentioned John McCain's inability to raise his arms above his shoulders due to being beaten and tortured as a POW. I never realized that was the case. Then, when he came out after Palin's speech and moved in his stiff, robotic way, I saw him in a new light and his stiffness made sense to me and I could sympathize with it. As people get to know McCain and Palin better, I think they will pull away to a landslide win in November.

September 4, 200818 yr To be honest (and I'm a Democrat) I thought she did an excellent job of telling the people what they wanted to hear. I am more interested in how she would do in a debate. I think she is too green to do too well in a debate.....enter BGP Republicans to comment on being green.

It should be fun to watch.
September 4, 200818 yr Pros: Very effective delivery - didnt look nervous Well written speech for the most part Solid portrayal of McCain and leadership (for the most part) Played well to the base Excited the crowd and the base which appeared to have been missing previously Cons: No details - just platitudes (yes, like Obama). Energy independence - how? How long? Protecting the country? OK. No economic details - how does the guy in Michigan feel better about McCain/Palin re: jobs? Very condescending which played well to the base but may not to the undecideds. Fabricated points - "If we want to build the bridge we'll build it ourselves." Not true. Obama will raise taxes - True IF you make over $250k. Since the comment was aimed at the "middle class" voters it simply is not true. From factcheck.org: For most taxpayers rates would go down. The nonpartisan Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center has described his plan this way: Tax Policy Center: The Obama plan would reduce taxes for low- and moderate-income families, but raise them significantly for high-bracket taxpayers. ... Those in the top 1 percent would face a $19,000 average tax increase — a 1.5 percent reduction in after-tax income. Obama wrote two books but has no significant legislation: Obama and Lugar co-sponsored a bill to help keep nuclear weapons out of the bad guys' hands. Obama helped create the bill that allows for a searchable database showing who got fedeal contracts and grants. Note that this bill also was sponsored by Sen. McCain. He also co-sponsored a bill that prevents the Dept of Homeland Security to not offer no-bid contracts. Effective in energizing the base. We'll have to wait to see if it was truly effective in getting Sen. McCain elected
September 4, 200818 yr ANOTHER GREAT LINE AND PROBABLY THE BEST OF THE NIGHT....I think my man Huckabee had it. Palin got more votes in her election for mayor of Wasilla than Biden did in the 2008 Democrat Presidential Primary. CLASSIC!!!! What would have made it better would for it to have been true.

September 4, 200818 yr Actually Clyde, she gave details about the energy independence.... She did. Emphasized the North Slope and touched on all of the alternatives ie; natural gas, nuclear, wind geothermal etc,.
