January 22, 200917 yr Summit bombarded CC Gold tonight...52-25. Starters played less than half the game. Summit's nursing some injuries and might have lost another guard for a couple of games tonight with a ankle injury. Pouncy didn't play due to a sprain..not sure if he's good to go at Twenhofel tommorrow night. Hard to tell who led them in scoring. I think Sampson, Swanson, Huesman were in or close to double figures.
January 22, 200917 yr Anyword on last night's results????? You probably are looking for 8th grade results, which Q will have to post. In the 7th grade game it was the Birds 44-26. They have now won 4 in a row and have an overall record of 12-9. The Birds record since Jan 1st -- is 6-1 with the only loss to Two Rivers (Holmes). They have 2 games with CC Purple and 1 more game with Two Rivers left in their last 7 games.
January 22, 200917 yr Highlands 8th are on a 3 game win streak with their victory last night over the Tigers from Beechwood 40-28. The game was never in question as the Birds led throughout. Halftime score was 19-12 Birds and Nussbaum was held scoreless. They have an athletic team with the Smith brothers Dexter and Dillon. Dillon, a starter got in early foul trouble and was not a factor. The Birds played aggressive man-man and were hitting their shots. Jack Collinsworth continues to play better each game as he hit a couple big 3pters for the Birds and hit the glass on the defensive end. McCoy led with 12. Dupont hit 5 of 7 FT's and ended up with 9pts. Luke Turner did a nice job defensively on Nussbaum. Only run made by Beechwood was to start the 2nd half as they cut it to 24-19 on 4 Ft's from Nussbaum. He did a nice job of getting to the line in that period. They would never get closer as the Collinsworth nailed a long 3 that looked like a rainbow. Birds maintained 10 pt lead the rest of the way and several players on the bench got minutes. Just a bad night for the Tigers as Nussbaum struggled with his shot and nobody else really stepped up. Birds are now 8-4 in the conference (overall East and West) and they have some winnable conference games remaining which should set them up for a decent seed in the tournament. Rest of their conf schedule looks like this. CC Purple- away Sharp- Away Holmes- Home St. Pius- Away Newport-Away CC Purple- Away They have won 4 of their last 5 with only loss coming at Holmes and by 3pts.

Should still be a good game tonight for the battle of Independence. Jackson and Yanke are still out so Summit will be a small group tonight.

I think "hard place to play for a visiting team" is an understatement. They really take home court advantage to heart! Good luck Killer Cats, I'm expecting a 5 point win for Newport. Sharp does take advantage of the home court - I've been going there for the past six years and nothing surprises me with the outcome of the games. I've seen visiting coaches get technical fouls for the strangest of things. Oh well, let's just hope for a good game. Sharp has had some talented players in the past and I'm sure they still have them. Newport's 8th grade has talent but lacks the bench support to give them that added punch. The 7th grade doesn't have a point guard capable of making things happen. Hayes (7th) is the best player the 7th grade has. The 6th grade has some talent and very well coached but look for Coach Hambrick to get a T tonight - he doesn't hold anything back - gotta appreciate that in a coach.
January 22, 200917 yr Sharp's 8th grade Guard Mason Monroe is the starting point guard on the Varsity high school team and doing very well. So naturally they are down as he did everything for them the last two years.
January 22, 200917 yr Also throw in guard Garrett Appleman has been out of commission the majority of the season with a broken foot. And Aven Harper another guard decided to concentrate on soccer and is not playing this year. I hope he plays next year because this kid is an athlete and very smart player. Jackson Strong has been depended on a lot this year to get the ball up the floor this year with the injury to Appleman and missing Monroe and Harper.

January 23, 200917 yr Great game back in fourth tonight in Independence... Twenhofel pulls it out in the end, the zone at the end of the game did Summit in... Both teams had key players out, difference was the bench. Twenhofel has one and Summit, just not enough to make a difference. I believe Twenhofel by 6 or 7, they hit their free throws in the fourth to put it away.
