January 24, 200917 yr Well, i would say its a crapshoot on who the best is but if I had to say when healthy and fully loaded i would say Twenhofel just because they have depth. 1-10 they have a very solid squad. Other than that the Birds have either beaten them or split with them. I am certainly not inclined to say that Highlands is Number 1 at all but I would say on any given night they could beat any team in NKY as there really isnt that much separation. Summit View when fully loaded is very tough, Conner is a nice ball club as is Gray Middle. If I had to pick Top Teams in 8th grade NKY and in no particular rank here goes. Twenhofel, Conner, Summit View, Holmes, Highlands, (havent seen Tichenor this year) and Gray probably would make the list as well. Assessments of solid teams from viewing and JMO remember. Twenhofel- Very deep, hot shooting team with some nice size. Conner- Very well coached, fundamentally might be the best in nky. Play as a team. Summit View- Good shooters, 2 very athletic players in Sampson/Swanson with decent depth. Holmes- Very athletic, if you dont box out they will kill you. Not very good shooters at all. Highlands- Athletic group, when they want to play they look great defensively. Decent shooters. Gray- Nice combination with Pavy, Brown and Mays. Morgan is an athletic kid as well who helps on boards. Tichenor- havent seen em but I now they have the Carter kid at PG and he is lightning quick. Beechwood- Nussbaum carrys them period. They have some athletic looking kids who look like they probably wont grow anymore but they are non-factors if you defend them. IMO, Jones Middle has to be in the mix somewhere. Of the teams you listed, they have double digits wins over Highlands and Gray, plus a win over Tichenor and played Conner very tough with a 6 point loss and a two-point loss to Summit View and lost by 1 or 2 to Beechwood. They have not played Twenhofel and were not prepared for Holmes' quickness, which resulted in their only double digit loss of the year (however it was a 2-point game at half-time). I just think there are so many teams that are pretty even talent wise in NKY that any team can win on any given night.

Its all over the place as the Birds lost to them and beat Gray and Beechwood and only lost to Holmes by 3. Pretty even if you ask me as well.
January 24, 200917 yr Beechwood beats Holmes today 31-28. Nice win for Beechwood coming off the 12 pt loss to Highlands. I was not impressed with the Bulldogs when they played the Birds. Even though they won the game it took a major spurt to get them the lead and the Birds still had a chance to win. I am looking forward to the Dogs coming to the Birds nest in the next couple weeks for a rematch.
January 24, 200917 yr Sharp is down this year and it looks like this could be a really long season for the Wildcats! Losing their top 3 scorers in Monroe, Appleman, and Harper really has hurt. Appleman is struggling coming back from the broken foot and the team is really affected. I have seen them play a few times this season and they look really out of sync on offense, like they are confused. They were VERY lucky to get a win Thursday over Newport, very lucky!
January 24, 200917 yr Walton Verona 7th beat Conner today (at home) by 15. That's the last game of the season. They finish 29-0 and will compete in MS state in 2 weeks.:dancingpa

Racke in the next couple weeks. Barnes is unknown at this time. They should be good to go for the State Tournament and COnference Tournament as long as everyone is back and healthy. I think Summit View is one of the top teams around as well.

Summit is projected to get Jackson and Yanke back next week? But they will be without Clary for another 4 to 5 weeks (ankle)... I look for Summit to develop the bench a little more over the next few weeks...

Summit was supposed to host Woodland Tues. School closed today and if any more snow comes will close tomorrow and maybe Wed? May be doing some make-ups this weekend?
