Props to Twenhofel and St Mary's. I heard someone say it was a great game.

 

Strange that Twenhofel didn't play much of their bench. I was told that St. Mary's went 9 or 10 deep. Someone said that they didn't even sub in the 2nd half?? Maybe coach is driving a point about something home to his team.

 

Congrats to both teams for a great showing. I am surprised Twenhofel with their depth didnt win bigger but St. Mary's is gritty and I am sure they hung tough.

I think 3 or 4 of these kids are overrated and 2-3 of the kids you mentioned from Northern Ky could easily make this list. Langford and Hall were added this fall after their impressive performances in the middle school state tourney. I think Portwood and Hatton are 1-2, after that it's a crap shoot.

In the Turkeyfoot Twnehofel game the breds only led twice...23-22 in the middle of the

3rd and with 4.6 seconds left 36-35...this game was a thriller

I believe my quote was "he has to be one of the top 7th graders in the state". Nobody said anything about top 10 or top 5. Give credit where credit is due. Moeves is an excellant player but he's not the best player on his team at this point. McNeil is also a better player than Deters with certainly much more upside.

I was in the stands for this one too, and Swanson and Sampson played there butt's off, but you can't do it alone. Congrats to Highlands. A game played well with the excellent ref's that were there..

 

You're absolutely right!! I hope they all realize this and stop trying to!!

I've watched Highlands, Campbell Co, St Marys, Summit, Woodland and Twenhofel play several games. They all have talented players so it will be interesting watching them grow thru the years to come.

 

Woodland has a lot of upside if their BIGs continue to develope. IMO they are usually the last to come around and a few of them are starting to look pretty impressive. There guard play will need to improve. I look for a PG to take care of the ball, distribute and run the team. I haven't seen that from any of there players thus far. That's different from just getting the ball up the floor. Then again, there aren't many at this age that display that kind of leadership.

 

St Mary's has a few really nice players. They play hard and play together.

Camp. Co's big kid should continue to grow and mature. Not a strong shooting team.

 

Summit has some skilled players. There guard play hasn't been the strongest. Again, I look for a PG to run the show. One guard is not physical at all and seems to shy from any physical contact. Just doesn't breakdown a bigger kid against him at all. That will be tougher for him as he gets older. The other one has a lot of potential. He plays hard just needs to control his temper. I like that fire by the way. I believe he will go to Scot? There BIGs aren't very good. sorry! Just one persons opinion. I believe there team splits into several HS next year.

 

Highlands seems to be well rounded. They can go about 7 maybe 8 deep. If those kids find what it takes then they may develope into something nice.

 

Twenhofel is very talented and very deep. One guard can flat out shoot it. Doesn't like to play D. There BIGs are slow but a few of them will play physical. They have a bench that is very quick and can play as well. They will also split between several HS's from what I understand. SK, Scott, Bishop B., Walton, Beechwood to name a few.

those are some great names and players to watch... Keep in mind that Zach McCormick is an Ohio player (Wilmington area) Zach McC., Brandon H. and Zach McNeil all played on the same Tar Heel team... Pretty good team... Should be interesting to see how it all comes out in about a year or two?

I think Grundy & Dishman are underrated on this list. I have also seen the 2013 list and it is really off. Im good with McFarland being number 1. That would be my pick...but their kids on the top 10 that cant dribble the ball down the floor without turning it over and never plays defense. Their over all skills will catch up with them in the next few years. To rank a player just because another player draws more Defensive attention and it allows him to score points is wrong. To rank that kid ahead of others shows me he does not know much about the players he's ranking.

 

Not to have Mason Monroe and Nate MC Govney ranked in the top 10 2013 is a joke. It really lets me know he's not watched a lot of the Class of 2013. They were ranked by points scored in a few games in State AAU. Two big time players in the KY class of 2013.

 

Sorry, about my rant...but when ranking players their more than just points ranking. Some are ranked because of their athleticism with very low skills level.

 

Lead Guards: He takes care of the ROCK! Can he read and understand what the defense is trying to do. Can he create his own shot and make others around him better. Can he dribble with both hands and not over dribble. Make good passes after dribble penetration. Can he shoot the jump shot and score from the free throw line". Quickens always helps a lead guard...

 

Off Guard: Understand what the D is given him. Good low post passer from the wing. Consistent outside shooter... the 3 Point line in. Can he shoot off screens and make transition shots off the dribble or pass. Does he move well with out the ball. He must be able to Rebound and Shoot Shoot Shoot.

 

Wingman: Quick fast running the floor and finish at the basket. He can hit a mid range jump shot or take his man off the dribble. Good post passer...Rebound Rebound Rebound....Must be a scorer scorer!!!!!

 

 

Power man: Good foot work around the basket and good passer. Consistent mid range jump shot. Can Finish around the basket...Can Defend the low post and out on the perimeter. Strong player on offense and defense. Rebound Rebound Rebound...

 

Five Man: Just like the Power man, Good Hands & foot work around the basket. " Power moves, Up under drop steps ect... Knows how to use his body to create offense and to play defense. Understands what the defense is trying to do too him. Know how to post people up and when to pass the ball back outside. Rebound Rebound Rebound!!!

 

I know some of these player don't know all this..but their something you see in watching them. That says...hey he can do that if taught! The biggest thing is their basketball IQ, Athleticism and Attitude Attitude. You know every game can be an adventure with young players. They can go from looking like MJ to what the Heck. :scared: So dont watch a kid one time and pass judgment's.

I guess we'll have to see how the rest of the season pans out... Summit's coach should now take the gloves off and show no mercy?

After hearing about and seeing Shane Hall in action, I would say he's probably more like top 5 in the state, maybe top 3! The kid is a stud and can play all 5 positions on the floor.

There are about 20 or so players at the 7th grade level that can take over a game offensively. Everyone mentioned on that list and others. Playing strong defense IMO is the part of the game that is rarely evaluated.

I also agree that Monroe and McGovney should be in the Top 10. Top 3 Point guards in the state IMO for the class of 2013 are the following:

 

Sanders- S.Laurel

Monroe- Pend. Co

Richardson- Scott Co.

 

They do all of what lead guards should do.

I agree with your statement here as well. It is hard to judge someone's potential when they havent grown hair under their arms yet. The player in question has good skills, can shoot the 3 ball very well and once he gets taller and more physically mature will be a very good player in HS. IF he has the work ethic and drive even better. :thumb:

If we talk teamwork, we should stop referring to the AAU Bulls team as Summit View as there are other players involved not on the AAU team..

Re-read the sections you highlighted. No where does it state that the kid doesn't have potential. Just pointing out how they play now. I absolutely agree that no one knows how these kids will grow and mature. In fact, I believe the kids that haven't matured yet are the one's to watch.
