Interesting reunion of former 1979 9th Region Champion Bluebirds today at the Dayton Holiday Tournament. Mike Vories (Coach of Highlands 8th), Bob Muntis (has 8th grade son playing for Turkeyfoot) and Danny Sullivan (6th or 7th grade WV coach) were all in the house watching and coaching. That was very nice to see as they were a very good team and nice to see they are still active in the NKY community coaching and producing players. I believe Muntis has an older boy also who is on Dixie's roster. Sullivan has a son on the team he was coaching as well as a sophomore son who starts for the WV Varsity. Mike Vories' son Jeffrey was 9th Region POY a few years ago and is a starter for Lindsey Wilson College.

Sources say Twenhofel by 30???

Yes, they looked real good. All 15 played.

Twenhofel won solidly this morning. No details as it was to early for me.

So I think this is what the Dayton 8th grade tournament is looking like as of today.

Twenhofel plays St. Mary in Upper bracket.

Lower bracket.

Campbell Co vs. summit View

Highlands vs. Woodland

Two lower bracket winners play on Saturday morning. Winner of that game plays the loser of the Twenhofel/St. Mary game Then the winner advances to the finals where they will have to win 2 games to win it.

Sounds like some great games coming up... Summit should be ok against Campbell... Haven't seen Woodland this year, should be a good game with them and Highlands...

I heard South Laurel lost again this weekend and their best player didn't play(Sanders). Is he injured or what's going on?

Woodland has a decent team, they scrap and have a really nice guard. It should be a battle with how Highlands has played as of late. I think Summit View should get back on track and handle CC. If the Birds can get by Woodland they would face SV for the 3rd time this season.

Summit squeaked by Campbell tonight... This team is getting better game by game and Summit had another sub-par game... Round three, with Highlands. Not sure if people are noticing but Summit is without a solid big man right now. Rebounds are hard to come by and inside game is a struggle...

Highlands got a nice win over Woodland tonight 36 to 34. Down 24 to 14 at the half they outscored Woodland 22 to 10 in the 2nd half. Donovan McCoy hit a nice transition basket for the go ahead pts. Big free throws down the stretch by Witte and Collinsworth kept the Birds close setting up McCloy's heroics.

Woodland has a very nice player in Engleman. He has very nice hops and a very soft touch around the basket. He scored Woodlands first 8 pts I think and I thought he would get 40. Birds did a nice job of pressuring their guards and forcing some turnovers.

Looking forward to Round 3 with Summit V. Gotta play DEFENSE.

Sanders, played he had 21 points... Hit a 3 to take tie the game and missed a last second shot for the win.

Clay Co. did keep Sanders from dribble penatration...but he still hurt them from the out side.

South was down 13 at one time and came back on very good Defensive effort by 5 players that won the Knott Sportplex Christmas Tournament last weekend.

Sears, is out with a broke hand...He a big plus to the South team and will be back in about 3 more weeks.

Merry Christmas...May God Bless you and your families!

Round 3 tomorrow - Summit View -vs- Highlands... Summit will be without two of the big men for the next three weeks... Will take a lot of good guard play for Summit to pull this one out...

Who?

Twenhofel over St. Mary 49-39. Twenhofel led by as much as 16.

Walton-Verona 7th over St. Phillips 46 to 26 to advance in the Dayton Middle School tournament. Walton-Verona plays St. Joe's in the finals of the winners bracket tomorrow at Silver Grove. It should be a good game as St. Joe's has defeated Highlands and Twenhofel so far in the tournament.
