St. Joe's has a very nice 7th grade team. The WV/St.Joes game will be a great one.

Twenhofel's 8th grade team pretty much controlled the entire game against St. Mary's. Not a close game at all. They appear to be the best team playing right now. I have watched them play several times and it appears that he goes nearlly 15 deep. I think his second and third team may be better than his first. His first team doesn't have a lot of speed. Anyway, I would like to see an intra-squad scrimmage. I believe it would be tough all the way around. Twenhofel def. has the deepest team I have seen but that doesn't necessarily translate into wins. You can only put 5 on the floor and their coach seems to be reluctant to play his bench. Good kids sitting.

Walton-Verona was missing the both Moeves kids. But there best all around player would be Zach McNeil. Walton-Verona defeated St. Joe's 43 to 27.

Highlands 8th grade got the monkey off their back defeating Summit View this morning in the Dayton Tourney. Down 16-15 at the half they came out in the 2nd half and stepped up the defensive pressure and kept a 3pt lead most of the 3rd period. Summit V looked out of sync but a lot had to do with the sticky man-man Highlands played the entire game. Gotta mention reserve player Zack Carter and his big 3pter coming off the bench in the 2nd half. Still too many silly turnovers for Highlands, I think I counted atleast 15 in the game on soft floater passes.

 

Swanson and Sampson were quiet today and their outside shooters couldnt get really good looks. It was a frustrating day Im sure for the Jags and missing their 2 big kids off the bench doesnt give them alot of depth.

 

Luke Turner nailed a big jump shot with 30 ticks left to put HIghlands up 1. Summit View had the ball and a shot to win it but a shot went wide and they had to foul with 7 sec left. Witte went to the line and sank both FT's to put the Birds up 3. Summit View called a timeout and drew up a play that didnt seem to materialize. Sampson got the ball but shot an off balance 3 for the tie that got a lot of rim.

 

Congrats to the Birds and good luck later this afternoon vs. St. Marys to see who plays Twenhofel in the finals.

Q., I agree with all of that with the exception of the score... I believe Highlands was up 15 - 13 at half and up by 5 with about 2 minutes to go... Highlands came to play today... Summit way too many turn-overs and not enough rebounding... Not sure what that last play was designed to do but you had Pouncy and Huesman just standing next to each other at the wing...

Credit to St. Marys for converting free throws down the stretch to extend a 2 pt lead with a couple minutes to go. Highlands got desperate and started jacking 3's at the end. Game was closer than score indicates. They were down 10 at one point in 2nd half and drew within 2. Twenhofel will handle St. Mary's easily IMO.

Twenhofel should be able to handle St. Mary's. Twenhofel has a deep team that can allow them to really match up with about anyone. The coach seems to be reluctant to go with the speed he has on the bench. He put them in for a two minute segment in their first match up against St. Mary's and they really seemed to open it up. They just couldn't stay in front of the Twen. players. Their coach needs to try a few different lineups in the game and trust his eyes. They seemed to be too comfy with some of the same kids and haven't realized that the others on his bench may be able to push them now.

 

There are a lot of good teams out there so its going to be fun watching it all play out this year.

First of all, SMS played at 8:30 this morning, so that excuse is obviously invalid...

 

I was at the game and the game closed a bit down to 4 at the middle of thee 4th, but SMS quickly stopped the bleeding, and pulled away. Game was never in question. But hey, don't let facts get in the way of your argument...
