The catholic schools that play in both the catholic school league, and the public school league, (3 games each week normally), who also play 6 or 7 tournamnents outside the league tournament, can play 60 plus games in a school season if they do well in the tournaments. My son played 64 games a couple years back as a 7th grader.

The 7th grade Northern tournament has Meece, Wayne Co., Southern, Northern, Casey Co. and Adair Co. I am not sure of the 8th grade.

The Catholic schools play in lots of tournaments, already this year St Henry, Campbell County, Highlands St Paul and IHM. There 3 more this months and next month starts a string of 13 Cincy West Side Tournaments with 2 - 5 games each. It is grueling for the adults but the kids love it.

 

Catholic schools primary source of fundraising during winter months and everyone seems to reciprocate the invitations.

I sometimes think we play too much in middle school and don't spend enough time on personal improvement and getting better at our weaknesses. The kids play alot more now than 20 years ago but I don't see an improved finished product. I think Kentucky produced just as many DI players in the

80's as they do now. I also think the teams where just as good.

 

If you think about it, is it harder to reteach a bad habbit or teach it the first time correctly? We can run and dribble and pass better but why can't we shoot it like they could in the past? Too many games, too young, with poor shooting mechanics behind the 3 point line? The fact is, Kentucky has produced fewer NBA players than at any time in our history. Why?

 

My kids probably play 100+ games a year so I am in no way criticizing anyone, sometimes I just wonder if we wouldn't be better served in the summer on the lake at Dale Hollow doing family things.

I think you answered your own question. It is harder to reteach or undo bad mechanics, habits, or fundamentals. One great example you gave is the bad mechanics on shooting from behind the arc. There are 7 and 8 year olds being asked to make the same shot as an 18 year old in high school. Therefore bad mechanics and poor shooting habits developed and become very difficult to undo. The Summit View-Sharp game was canceled today due to bad weather. Does any one know if that game will be rescheduled???

Does anyone know anything about Ross Point out of Harlan Co.

I've seen Twenhofel's 8th and Camp Ernst 8th and i'll have to say that Camp Ernst 8th was much more impressive. It would be very hard to match up versus Camp Ernst's size. I know that Twenhofel's 8th is pretty good but size is hard to teach.

 

IMO Camp Ernst is the best 8th grade team in NKY. They are tops in the NKAC right now, followed by Conner, Tichenor and Jones. Camp Ernst is undefeated in the NKAC, but I don't think they participate in many tournaments, which is why nobody really talks about them.

I havent seen em yet but its funny how every team you have mentioned is a Boone Co school or Tichenor who I believe participates in that league. I have seen Conner 3 times and they are very solid but also vulnerable. They have found ways to win games and havent lost yet as far as I know. I hear Camp Ernst is very long and athletic. R.A Jones was not good at all last year so they must have revamped their lineup if they are that good. Tichenor is solid but I would put a Summit View or Highlands against them any day. I dont think there are any teams head and shoulders better than the rest. A lot of parity in NKY at this point.

I am simply agreeing with Weakside's assessment of Camp Ernst and I listed the top teams in the league (NKAC) that they participate in, which all happen to be in Boone County, except for Tichenor or Grant County. I was not saying that these schools were the top teams in NKY, just that they are tops in the league that they are in. I'm not sure if Camp Ernst participates in many tournaments throughout the area, which is why it is difficult to compare them to anyone else other than those teams in their league. But, from what I have seen, they would give anyone in NKY a tough game.

Ockerman is very down this year. I don't think they have won a game yet in the league. I heard they have new coaches this year, so I'm sure they will adjust to that and start to win some games.

 

I think a lot of the Camp Ernst kids will go to Cooper and possibly a few to Ryle. Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure that is how they redistricted Boone County when Cooper opened.

I'm sure you know this by now, but the game is Thursday night. Summit's game with Highlands (Dayton Tourney) has been delayed until Friday afternoon 4:40pm
