Some of the older Raceland fans know all too well about this. Raceland had a young man in the late 70's suffer a broken neck, thankfully he came out of it o.k. and was able to lead a productive life.

Got an update today, and it's a good one:

 

Demarco was released from the hospital yesterday, and was back in school this morning. He is able to walk and has no other motor problems. He will be in a neck brace for a while, and still has some swelling on his vertebrae. He'll be going in for more examinations in a few weeks.

 

It's unlikely he'll be able to play any sports again because of the risk of future injury, but the important thing is he's not wheelchair-bound, or worse. God speed on your recovery, Demarco. We're pulling for you.

It's a wonder he wasn't hurt worse.
