So now how do you feel about your old school?

Featured Replies

Just curious as to how everyone feels about their old high school. Meaning, do think it still the same or has changed for the better or worse.

Sad, it was forced to close a few years ago... Even after the students and alumni raised several hundred thousand dollars to try and keep it open, the decision was made to close it.

It has a good use now, though. It's a community center that provides services for resettled refugees and immigrants.

Stilll.....

It's changed. Some for the better and some not.

I have only been gone four years. Visually I will say that it changed for the better as far as structure now. The new gym is extremely nice (Boone County). However, I don't think our athletics have been as strong since my graduating class has left, and the quality of students seems to have gone down as well.

It has changed for the worse. Visually, the exterior of the building was replaced with some kind of siding that now makes it look like a glorified trailer with a Harry Potter-esque school crest hanging just to the left of what looks like an airport hanger (I think it's just a covering to keep the kids dry on rainy days while waiting for the bus.

Yes, you can try to imagine that mess. A gaudy crest, hanging on something that looks like a giant cream-colored trailer, next to something that looks like a miniature airport hanger.

Anyways, from what I've heard the administration and the way the school is run is still about the same, if not maybe just a teensy bit better than it was when I was there 4 years ago. As far as quality of education, I think it's still pretty much the same.

I've been out 8 years. I never really did like the town, as I was a transplant anyway, now that I've been gone, it's hard to get me to go back there other than to visit my parents. I still root for my alma mater in sports but haven't kept touch but with just a few friends from highschool

The only true differences between my day and today at CovCath, is the new building, and the lack of Brothers and Priest as teachers, but the same "With a Spirit, that will not Die" attitude is still alive and well.

Of course I think the real CovCath dress code should be put back into effect. Dress shoes, black socks, dress pants, dress shirt, tie and it needs to be tied tight to the neck. Today's student couldn't last a week being dressed like that each and every day for four years! :thumb::lol:

I think my school has changed for the better. Enrollment has doubled since I graduated 16 years ago. Also since I have graduated, Raceland has opened a new high school, renovated Worthington Elementary, built on to Campbell Elementary, has a very nice gymnasium, purchased property to form a JFL football complex, built a theatrical arts center on to the new high school that has become a community center for concerts and productions with many other schools and organizations using it on a regular basis. Test scores have continued to be very high, many students are getting at least part, if not all, of their college education paid for through athletic and academic scholarships, the community has stayed very active in the school, and many people who do not have children in the school system anymore are still present at many of the school functions.

Raceland was a great school for me and it is now a great school for my family, my wife works there, both my children attend there and are active in many activities, and I am very active in school functions. I am very proud of the Raceland School System.

:thumb: Well stated Ram!!!! You spoke for all of us Oldramblers!!! My story is similar to yours and I am sure many others echo that same story.

My entire family attended Raceland High School. My cousin now works in Administration and is working hard to see that "Ram Pride" continues throughout the community.

There have been approx 17 family members (including cousins) that played football for the Rams.

I can't say for sure as I haven't been back in the building (or know any of the kids that have attended there) in the last 30 years. I've often driven by and wondered what it was like now inside but I only seem to get to BG during holidays when school isn't in session.

BUT . . . the PURPLE SPIRIT is still alive in my heart and my parents keep me updated on their progress and successes and . . . ofcourse . . . BGPreps keeps me informed too. :ylsuper:

To keep from hurting feelings I edited my post. I could really get on a rant!

GO ROCKS!!!

That about covers it.

My high school...Ezel High...graduated in 1970 in a class of 25 students, consolidated with Morgan Co in 1974. The building isn't even there anymore. There were 180 students, grades 1-12. No we didn't have a football team and our basketball team struggled to hit the .500 mark every year, but we had great cheerleaders...:D

Yes we did have good cheerleaders at Ezel because I was one.:dancingpa

They're on a slippery downhill slope... All around...
