Well not really, by not wearing a seat belt your chances of getting hurt increase and if you don't have health insurance you will be costing taxpayers a ton of money, and if you do have health insurance you are hurting those in your group by increasing the cost of your plan. Maybe you don't understand but smoking in a public place hurts not only those sitting with you or around you but those who work their. Being one who had no choice but to stand behind a desk and have someone blow smoke into my face sometimes just a foot away, taught me, that a lot of smokers could care less if their smoking caused you problems.

That's a whole nother issue. One stupid policy leads to another stupid policy.

Okay a place right off the top of my head is Reno's. I love eating there but I hated the smoke, it's more of an open area so the smoke lingers wherever you sit. But it's more than that.

Any type of restaurant that you go in that has a smoking section the smoke just lingers and it's like part of the atmosphere or something. People have no courtesy with it either, I've seen people smoking and blow it right in the waiter's face while their trying to take that person's order. It's rude and if people feel the need to smoke then they have area's outside that they can smoke, feel free to go there if you want to smoke..

Or we can do what some of you want and let the people smoke inside and I guess we can eat our dinner outside on the curb and let all of them smoke inside, or step outside to get some fresh air before we eat then walk back inside to it.

Trust me you all (smokers) will be ok not smoking during a dinner.

I think smokers should have some restaurants where they can enjoy a smoke with their meal. Why do you have to have ALL of the restaurants smoke free. What makes you special?

I don't smoke :D

I think that when people choose to smoke they should face the consequences that go along with it..Such as not smoking in restaurants and what not..

Also who cares about the state doing this..So you complain because they are trying to help people cut back on smoking, and helping people from acquiring second-hand smoke?

Do you think they should ban them in restaurants?

When I was a kid you never head of anyone with peanut allergies, but my wife tells me that more and more kids have them today (two out of twenty in her two year olds class next year, will have peanut allergies), and they are really dangerous.

Not that long ago, I saw a lot of restaurants serve peanuts and them you threw them on the floor, but haven't seen much of this as of late. Now did they stop doing this because of the cost, safety factor, or was it because too many complained because of peanut allergies? Don't know!

Seeing how people are and have been effected by peanut allergy then yes I think they should be banned! Have you seen a person whose air passage has literally close up on them? I have, it isn't a site that I think you want to experience!

I'll be really surprised if thise get's passed. Bars all across NKY have experienced an increase in business because of the fact that they allow smoking. I personally love non smoking bars, but if I was a business owner in NKY I'd be doing everything in my power to make sure that NKY doesn't go smoke free.

On a side note, I don't smoke, but do dip, and know of alot of people that are dipping more when out because of the smoking band. Makes me think dip company's have to love this type of no smoking movement.

Dip will be next. Can't dip, spit etc.

There is already a ton of non smoking restaurants in NKY. To act like you don't have a choice is comical.

O-kay here's the opinion of a newly non-smoker.

I can't stand the smell of smoke anymore. If I stand next to someone who smokes it makes me sick. I would rather I never come in contact with smoke anymore in my lifetime. Now that being said............................................I can't stand the thought that the government is telling you what you can and cannot do. If you don't want to smell the smoke then go to an non-smoking establishment...trust me they are there. If you choose to go to an establishment that allows smoking then you truly have nothing to complain about. I am just so worn out with people tell others what they can and cannot do. Smoking offend you....well little cute blonds offend me but I just don't believe the government will ever put a ban on them:D Am I being silly? No I don't think so. There are so many things in life that offends people and you just can't ban them all. Big old trucks that end up being in traffic in front of me and the toxic fumes coming from it makes me sick....standing anywhere next to a vehicle that is parked and having those toxic fumes slam into my face offends me...etc..etc...there are just somethings that will never be banned and they are just as dangerous to your health as a cigarette is.

As always, a voice of reason. :thumb:

I've been known to go into violent sneezing fits and swelled-up eyes when around certain perfumes, and sometimes breathing constrictions. Always around cats.

There are many people now who go into anaphylactic shock at the mere whiff of a peanut.

It's just as much an imposition on another as second-hand smoke. Ban 'em, eh?

There are many restaurants that are smoke-free. Of the two bars in B'town I frequent most often, one is smoke-free and the other two are the smokiest in town. If you're dying to eat at a particular place, you either deal with it, or get takeout. Plenty of choices.

As you know, I quit smoking four years ago. Like my father, I've developed a bit of an allergy to the smoke. B'town has a group pushing for a smoking ban in the county. I hope it never even gets to a vote here.

That's my point as well, Jim. There are always choices and options. Some of the non-smokers want things their way only, it's just not right nor is it American IMO. I understand and respect the fact that people don't want smoke around them while eating, I don't either, so I stay away from places that are overly smoky. It just isn't right to give smokers no choice so non-smokers can hoard all the establishments for themselves.

Well I have news for you, you aren't any more special than the smokers. :D

Not smoking in restaurants shouldn't be a consequence unless that's the way the owner wants it. It shouldn't be anyone else's choice. Just that simple.

I care about EVERYONE'S rights, not just a select crowd. No one has to acquire second-hand smoke; you have a choice to go elsewhere. What you want is to tell others that they have no choice. That is inherently wrong.

People can't be happy unless they can control the smoking ban. I'm still waiting for the eating place's you would love to go to but can't due to smoking.

If you have an allergy, then stay away. I mean, seriously, come on. If I was allergic to shellfish you can bet the farm that I wouldn't go to a seafood restaurant. So, since you have a problem with peanuts as well, should we also ban seafood restaurants? See where this is going?

One way or the other, someone's rights are going to be stepped on. If you smoke, you have the right to smoke in any establishment that wants you to be able to, while the non-smoker (like a friend of mine that has cystic fibrosis) cannot go there. If you don't smoke, then you're rights are going to limited in places that smoking is not allowed. Either way, we are looking at two conflicting groups, one of which is going to be unhappy with the results.

Exactly why it should be up to the owner. They know what their customers want, it should be up to them.
Thank goodness right thinking people that believe in the right to breathe and the freedom from other people's toxic waste are winning the day! Hopefully, these bans will be as broad as possible. Keep your poisons to yourself.

We don't have the right to dump hazardous waste in each other's yards, or beat people on the street just because we feel like it. So we shouldn't have the "right" (and I use the term loosely ) to poison innocent people.

A bit dramatic.

RTS and I are in complete agreement. Let me decide if I want to go to a place that allows smoking. If enough of us don't go because of smoking, the owner will either make a decision or lose money. However, if he/she's fine with the level of business without me showing up, who am I to tell him/her to change.

As far as smoking in restaurants go, if you can't go without a cigarette for an hour or so, you already have major problems. Smoking in bars doesn't really bother me at all, I just don't like it in restaurants.

Why do you think all the bars in NKY are always packed and outside of a few in cincy you can hear crickets in there a times.
