July 3, 200818 yr Tampa $43,820,598 Cincinnati $74,277,695 :irked: Ouch! looking at stats it is evident that the Rays pitching staff is better than the Reds. The also appear to be marginally better offensively, which maybe we can attribute to the DH?
July 3, 200818 yr I think alot of it is, their just young and hungry. They are very solid up the middle, and they have two studs on the infield corners. Joe Maddon their manager deserves alot of credit for sure. Did you know, he is one of the very few managers in history, to never play a game in the majors?
July 3, 200818 yr I didn't see it coming and I'm happy to give the Rays a lot of credit for how well they have played to this point. With that said, they are playing with house money and no one expects them to do anything. I figure a lot of people are still waiting for the collapse, I won't say they are for real til they start winning those games in September. If they are still in first or close to the top come the first of September, they will start to feel all the pressure in the world to seal the deal.
July 3, 200818 yr They're certainly good enough, strictly from a talent standpoint, to make it to the post-season & even do some damage once they arrive. But I'll remain a skeptic until they prove they can win games in Sept. in the heat of a pennant race. Not saying they can't or won't, just witholding the coronation until they do it over a complete season. With that said, they are w/o a doubt the #1 story in baseball thus far this season & their emergence is definitely a plus for the game in general...:thumb:
July 3, 200818 yr Would baseball as we know it come to an end if the Yankees and Red Sox both werent in the playoffs? No, but ESPN may go out of business.
July 3, 200818 yr Ouch! looking at stats it is evident that the Rays pitching staff is better than the Reds. The also appear to be marginally better offensively, which maybe we can attribute to the DH? Not to mention that the Rays have an excellent front office and manager. We (Reds) have.....well, you know.....Dusty Baker.

July 3, 200818 yr Not at all...At least not for me. I love this Rays Team, they have a good mixture of vets, and some real young studs. 94 stolen bases thus far as a Team, that's very unusual for an AL club. Not that it will happen, but if Griffey is going to be traded, I wouldn't mind seeing him go to the Rays. There's alot of Baseball to be played, but how ironic would it be to see a Rays, Cubs WS? Sweet Low against his old Team...I'll go with the Rays if that happend.:thumb: It's a myth that the NL runs more. This season AL Team's have stolen an average of 52.8 bases while the NL Teams have stolen an average of 51.6. 94 is a lot for either league but the stolen base is just as common in the AL.
July 3, 200818 yr Preface this by saying I am a Yankee fan...I think the Rays will fall off around August and the Red Sox will win the division with the Yanks getting the wildcard. I just don't trust the Rays pitching and their numbers don't jump off of the page. Heard this on ESPN and I was shocked...the Rays have played the toughest first half schedule by win percentage and still have the best record in the league. I am still a non-believer though.
July 3, 200818 yr This club has had several high draft picks over the past 5 years and its starting to pay off. Baldelli will make an appearance after the all-star break which could boost them even more. However, more than likely he will go back on the DL right after he gets off it.
July 4, 200818 yr Heard this on ESPN and I was shocked...the Rays have played the toughest first half schedule by win percentage and still have the best record in the league. I am still a non-believer though. That is impressive and I don't know how that doesn't make people start believing.
July 4, 200818 yr Spoken like a Yankee fan.[/QUOTE] Hey now :irked:...... I know that you were talking to mitts but I resemble that remark.
