July 4, 200818 yr I'm in an unusual position this weekend. I have to root for the Yankees. Yuk, spit, gag.
July 5, 200818 yr They play great defense, they have a great rotation, a great bull pen, and timely hitting. They are a TEAM. They are very fun to watch, they are young, but they play as a team and have fun doing it. I would not be at all suprised to see them in the World Series.
July 5, 200818 yr Author I'm in an unusual position this weekend. I have to root for the Yankees. Yuk, spit, gag. My sincere condolences. But sometimes as morally repugnant as something is, we have to bite the bullet. And by the way, looks like you're going to have to root a little harder. Maybe your heart just isn't in it.
July 5, 200818 yr Hard for me to imagine at this point that they won't at least win the Wild Card. But if the question is "Are they for real?" Then how do you answer? Does the fact that they've had far and away the best first half to a season in the entire short history of the franchise make them for real? I'd say yes. Nothing makes me happier that for teams like the rays and my Twins to be doing well by the time July rolls around. You can bet that I'll be pulling for them every step of the way. The team has played great and they are REALLY fun to watch.
July 5, 200818 yr Handed my Royals a first class whoop'n last night, but then again who has'nt? The Cardinals at Busch a couple of weeks ago.
July 5, 200818 yr I watched most of last night's game on TV. I thought they announced the attendance in the mid to high 30's; pretty nice for a Wednesday game in Tampa. It will be interesting to see if the local following stays at that kind of level; and also if the team picks up more of a national fan base with respect to merchandise sales, etc. Although "Rays Nation" just doesn't have that ring to it... Those numbers were due to about 13,000 Red Sox fans at the game. They still aren't much of a draw locally. Last night's game only drew 17,000 fans for a July 4th game with the team in first place. They'll probably draw better if they stay in first, Tampa fans are notorious band wagon jumpers. They are definately for real though.
