What some people's perspective of a boring drive is completely different than mine. To me, seeing the same exact thing with little variance over a long period of time is boring.

 

Mountain Parkway has plenty of curves and hills to keep you awake.

 

 

 

3. I-64 from Corydon, IN until East St. Louis, Illinois. Straight, flat, very few trees...a whole lot worse to drive at night then in the day though.

 

That's the one I was going to say.

After reading thru these posts, I've come to the conclusion that it is just BORING to drive.:jump:

I made this drive...(adding it up)....12 times between November and March which included driving an hour and a half south of Louisville.

 

I know every rest area and every exit. I get off to go home at Exit 230 and I break up the trip into distinct parts: Louisville to Seymour at Exit 50. From there to Indianapolis (mile marker 110). From Indy to Lafayette at Exit 172 and then from there to Exit 230. I usually drive it non-stop but it is mentally easier if I don't think about the whole trip at once.

 

I've always approached long trips the same way. When my son was going to school in Nashville, I mentally divided the trip into quarters - Maysville to the beginning of the Bluegrass Parkway, Parkway to Elizabethtown, E'town to Bowling Green, and BG to Nashville.

 

On longer trips (I've driven from Maysville to St. Augustine several times, and more often than not without stopping except for meals, gas and bathrooming). I always love the AAA triptiks; they divide the trips up in manageable chunks.

I don't like driving in the rain. I really don't like driving at night in the rain. I hate driving at night in the rain on any road that is heavily travelled by trucks. I'll take a boring daytime drive over the Western KY Parkway over a scenic drive in the rain behind a truck at night anytime.

The drive to work and back home everyday, 44 miles of the same old thing everyday, everyweek for the past six years now.

Northern Kentucky to Chicago is way boring, I do it about 10 times a year..

The middle of Wisconsin sounds pretty dull. My trip to South Bend was up and back, so about 9 hour drive time. But really the worst part is the 2.5 hours on 31.

It's an easy drive and you can make good time. It's just sooo flat and field after field..

I also agree with others about the drive across Kansas on I-70. It is one of the toughest stretches I have driven primarily because it is SO straight. You literally could fall asleep at the wheel, awake refreshed 5 hours later and still be in your lane on course to your destination.

 

I-90 across S Dakota is similarly challenging.

Kansas across I-70 almost caused me to wreck from boredom once.

 

Driving through Nevada from Reno to Elko will drive you insane.

 

The old Oregon Trail from Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Togwotee Pass in the Wyoming Wind River Range is a moonscape.

 

I've driven that 31E stretch north from Indianapolis all the way to Albion College in Michigan and its beautiful.

I-71 between Cincinatti and Columbus unless you really like corn.

 

Boring, yes. But, even more boring is 71 from Columbus to Cleveland. It's just awful.

I have to say from NKY to Ft Campbell KY is VERY boring. You have to go through Paducah and its a straight away and no lights, and no signal on your phones.

You go through Paducah during a trip from NoKy to Ft. Campbell???? You should shoot your AAA representative for having you travel an extra 100 miles west just to go northeast.
