Homer has been humbled enough. I have no doubt he'll listen.

I would hope he's ready to listen. What happened to his fastball? I remember reading last year that he was about to throw 95-96 MPH. I've yet to see that out of him.

I think he has been told too many different things by too many different people.

I think he has been told too many different things by too many different people. Good points by both. If the 2nd pitch is one his main issues, then that should be the focus. We can't just send him back to Louisville and hope he figures it out. He needs specific instruction on a)mechanics to get his velocity back and b)a second pitch. Gametime , you asked about the investment. I think its twofold. First, he got a significant signing bonus. Yes, its nothing compared to paying Corey Patterson $3M but for a high school pitcher, its a significant amount. Its also significant in the fact that its a big chunk of your draft budget for that particular year. Secondly, its the #1 draft pick for a team that has stunk it up over the years in drafting the most important position. While its hard to see past another terrible year, getting Homer ready to add to Cueto and Volquez is a big step in righting the ship. In my opinion, getting him ready for MLB is the #1 priority.

I'm not giving up on the season just yet. Good thought, but he most likely isn't ready to go 6 or 7 innings yet. It would just hurt an already shaky bullpen right now.
June 17, 200818 yr Could the Reds be looking at the (very thin) FA market to fill a spot in the rotation? Sidney Ponson placed on waivers by TEX was 4-1 with a 3.88 ERA to go along with his destructive baggage. Maybe the Reds could pull another pitcher from Arlington. Probably not worth the trouble though.
