June 11, 200818 yr After seeing Homer tonight I'll say it again...the guy isn't a big league pitcher. Too much hype and for no good reason. Granted the kid is only 22, I think in a couple years he could potentially be a good MLB pitcher but not right now.

He was up and down last year, and that's understandable considering he's now only 22. Give the guy a few starts to see if he's learned anything since last year ... everyone was ready to anoint Johnny Cueto as Cy Young incarnate after his first two starts, and look at his numbers now. It's a long season, guys ... every player goes through slumps and hot streaks. Let it play out.

Looper is 3-1 with a 3.47 ERA in three starts and 30 relief appearances against Cincinnati. Johnny Cueto (5-5, 5.06 ERA), who has posted a 3.50 ERA en route to winning three straight starts. While I'll agree there is still time for Bailey, at this point he has no where near the stuff that Cueto has.
June 11, 200818 yr Author I don't think Bailey pitched too poorly. He made a few mistakes, but Edwin could have had us out of that 4-run inning. Had Edwin doubled off the runner at 2nd, Homer would have been out of it; instead, E-5 dropped the ball on the exchange and Homer gave up 3 consecutive rockets to Ludwick who hit an RBI double ( he has 15 HR, 3-4 tonight), and then back-to-back to Pujols & Ankiel. We need to give Homer a chance. He was decent last year in his 9 starts and, like it or not, he's our best chance to win as a 5th starter. This is the 1st time I have seen Homer pitch this season. The mph was down (89 or so the majority of the time), but I think that may be a positive sign - he's pitching, not throwing. Or at least trying to. We'll see how it pans out. I think the Reds, as a whole, are right on the brink. Personally, I'm excited about this team and its future.
June 11, 200818 yr I hate to give credit to GT, but he may have been on to something when he said that Bailey may end up being a closer. He throws the ball too straight at this point of his career to face guys 3 times or more a game when he doesn't throw too many pitches for strikes.
