I think the Reds are making some strides but won't be a serious contender until they either unload some of their albatross contracts (Weathers, Griffey, Gonzalez, Patterson) or strike while the iron is hot and let Jocketty make some nice deadline deals. Their current roster just doesn't have enough working parts to make the post-season.

Exactly. That's 14 million that frees up for next year. 17 million if they get rid of Gonzalez. I would think 17 million would get them a nice #1 starter.
