May 13, 200818 yr "Usual" huh? Why did UL want it on Monday again? The last few years the most watched college game has been on that Monday night slot of the beginning of the football season. It is a prime slot.
May 13, 200818 yr I do not believe UL is forced to play any game not on Saturday, and its fine for them to do what they want. But I would love to see some evidence (article somewhere maybe) that shows they are having to play these games on this game because thats what their conference says. Also, I don't have a problem with any night except Friday night. UL should not be playing college football on a Friday night. That is defiinitly high school football night.
May 13, 200818 yr Also, at least three times this season, Louisville's target audience, high school prospects, will miss the televised game because of prior commitments.
May 13, 200818 yr Most Coaches don't like to play on these other nights because it interupts their normal weekly schedules. This is onething Brooks complained about how it throws a wrench it their routine schedule. I would agree with Coach Brooks becuase people get comfortable doing thinsg the same way. UL is saying we will play anyone, anywhere, any time, and any place. I think it is huge for them to be on TV. It has helped them in recruiting.
May 13, 200818 yr Louisville is forced to play these nights? Yes, because of the contract the BigEast has with ESPN.

The conference contract with ESPN gives the network the right to tell conference members when they will play in order for the games to be televised on the ESPN networks. ESPN does not give a rip about high school football, they want college football just like college basketball, every night of the week. You do realize that in the past Louisville has offered Papa John's stadium FREE OF CHARGE to high schools on Thursday nights when they were going to be playing home games on Friday.

May 13, 200818 yr What do you guys think is going to change for the Big East/UL when the new tv contract comes up for negotiations? What conference is the Big East going to knock out of a "better time slot?"
May 13, 200818 yr And you all say I find any little thing to bash UK about....   Who gives a rats behind what day they play on?

You do realize that in the past Louisville has offered Papa John's stadium FREE OF CHARGE to high schools on Thursday nights when they were going to be playing home games on Friday. First off, UL can't say we'd rather cut back on the Thursday games? I see nothing wrong with it, but I believe that if UL does not want to play on Thursdays they do not have to. As for playing free on Thursdays, there is a bunch of high school football teams in Louisville. Not all of them can play at Papa Johns stadium. You maybe able to accomodate for a couple of them, but there is a bunch of high schools being left out. I don't mind when UL plays, except I think they should stay away from Friday nights all together, ESPN, the Big East, UL, or whoever. Thats just my opinion.

I will concede this, from what I have heard U of L could indeed refuse the Thursday night games (or Friday, Sunday, or Wednesday, etc...), but they sacrifice ANY coverage at all. That's not worth it, IMO.
May 13, 200818 yr ..Additionally...WVU gets to play two Thursday Night games and two Saturday games on ESPN. Since UL carries the largest viewing audience, how did they not get to have those 4 timeslots and instead had to settle for one Thursday game and the rest on unconventional days? I believe that the Louisville -vs- WVU game on 11/22 (Saturday) will be televised as well.
May 14, 200818 yr I don't like the Friday games personally but I love the exposure the University has been getting in the recent years and it better off because of it. Non-issue imo.

Since UL carries the largest viewing audience, how did they not get to have those 4 timeslots and instead had to settle for one Thursday game and the rest on unconventional days?Actually, USF is in the 12th largest television market in the nation, the largest in the Big East. Pittsburgh is second (#22), followed by UConn (#28), Cincinnati (#34), then Louisville (#50). Having said that, market size has little to do with it. National interest is what matters, at least during the regular season, and the Cards are coming off a sub par season. Their reward was this off kilter schedule. If UofL gets a BCS or Gator / Sun Bowl this year, next year, they will get the prime TV spots that WVU and USF have this year.
