I'm not going through every team ... I simply said the Reds would do well to explore it. You never know when a team will mortgage a little of their future for that one chance to win it now. The Reds need to evaluate how far they are away from being a real contender. If they are 2-3 years away, and I think they are, exploring a deal for Harang makes sense. They don't have to take an offer ... but fielding them may find one that makes sense.

May 6, 200818 yr I'm no Reds Guru but I also think that it would be a bad move on the Reds part to trade Harang. It would set them back, and whoever they could get probably wouldn't help them as much as Harang is right now. Reds need to focus on their bullpen right now IMO and not by trading a starting pitcher, but there is a player with the initials AD that some would like to see traded.

He's a guy that can give you everything you want out of a veteran SS at his price. Injuries included. Next... Yeah, then why did Theo choose to sign Lugo instead for more money? I can tell you why. It is very telling, Theo chose to sign Lugo because he was a dependable option to play every day and Gonzo wasn't. In theory Gonzo is a better defensive and offensive player than Lugo but you CAN'T COUNT ON GONZO. I think it worked out okay for the Sox, seems like they did okay last year. Enjoy the Gonzo Era. It is off to a rousing start.

Weak at best IMO...Seven starts doesn't make an entire season, and Harang has never posted a 3.73 ERA in a full season. His value is as high now as it may ever be, and pitchers have a way of breaking down and/or losing their stuff unexpectedly. You're entitled to your opinion. But the argument isn't weak ...

What should the Reds look for in return for Harang? Just saying the Reds could explore a trade, and then not elaborate on anything else probably isn't going to win many arguments on this board!

May 6, 200818 yr What could the Reds have fetched for Adam Dunn two years ago? Is it the same as today? I don't think so. I see the Harang arguement, but I keep him if I'm the Reds. The key to rebuilding the Reds is simple. Acquire pitching in every trade you make. It doesn't have to be a stud prospect, but just a pitcher. For the most part they have been doing this. They just have to quit saddling themselves with contracts that are back-ended (Milton, Griffey, etc.) and keep them from being major players in the free agent market each year.
May 6, 200818 yr ^ Prime example is the Marlins...They unload major players for prospects and develop those players and still contend for a while. I mean with the Braves they traded Edgar Renteria, an all-star SS, for 2 minor league prospects. Jair Jurrjens( current pitcher in Braves rotation) and Gorkys Hernandez (still in minors). I mean it's really about the farm system and how well they are able to develop young talent.
