Until he proves otherwise, he needs to be in the lineup. Gonzalez's defense makes him a valuable guy to help the young pitching staff get established in the majors ... the ballpark certainly doesn't help. Cordero is fine, but the Reds are stuck with him because of his contract. The same is probably true for Dunn and Griffey, unless the team agrees to eat part of the salary to get anything of value in a trade. Guys like Keppinger, Hopper, Weathers and Affeldt are nice guys to keep around in certain roles, but they aren't going to be key players on the next good Reds' squad. I would explore what the trade market holds for Harang ... a contending team may be willing to overpay for him, so it's worth looking into. With Jocketty in charge, I wonder about Dusty's job status. Jocketty wasn't around when Dusty was hired and he may have his own manager (LaRussa?) in mind for 2009.

I said they should explore what the market is for him. As well as he's going, and depending on other teams' circumstances, the Reds may get overwhelmed with an offer.

The only overwhelming offer there is on Harang is the one that locked him up long term for middle of the rotation money. If you want to come play in Reds land, please come stronger than trade Harang...

But when you have a pitcher that has thrown nearly 700 innings over the last three seasons and is owed $36 million for the next three years, it wouldn't hurt to see what his value is at its peak. Pitchers are fragile things and their value can skyrocket and plummet from year to year. You guys should know that by now.
