"When we passed the wire I stood up," said Saez, a first-time Derby rider. "She started galloping funny. I tried to pull her up. That's when she went down."

 

An equine ambulance reached her on the track and put down the filly.

 

"There was no possible way to save her," on-call veterinarian Dr. Larry Bramlage said. "She broke both front ankles. That's a bad injury."

An injection I believe.

 

You are correct… About 1 year ago I was trail ridding and my horse stumbled going down a hill and sustained a head injury and was unable to get up. I called the local vet who examined the horse and suggested I euthanize him, which I did. The vet gave the horse 2 shots, one to relax the horse and one to stop the heart. It works very quickly and the horse seems to pass peacefully…

Great to see BIG BROWN win but on the other end of things so sad about.Eight Belles.

It was very sad to see Eight Belles go down.

I had a $15 Oaks Derby Double.

50$ to win on Big Brown.

And a dollar exacta.

 

Had a crazy tri but didn't have Eight Belles second.

 

That was the most imressive Derby victory I have seen in a while!

We cried at the news. What a gallant effort. Think about all the ones she beat and to break down and suffer. Prayers for all who are hurting thru this.

 

Big Brown...Congrats win the next two.

First things first, I was amazed by Big Brown....Pyro (my horse) was game today, but couldn't get out of traffic to make some noise (though he couldn't have beaten Big Brown today)....I am very upset about Eight Belles, she fought so hard, and was second best....awesome....lastly I danced all over the tri, but missed (I knew that since I hit it the last two, I had no chance this year). Instead of my normal boxing of four horses. Which mine were 5, 9, 16, 20. I did some straight tri's, and missed it. The closest one I had was 20, 9, 16....never had Eight Belles in the right spot....All in all it was a decent day, and I ended up about $100 ahead for the day, not too shabby, though I had started out much hotter.

Big Brown simply dominated. I was very impressed.

I won $80+ on Big Brown. I about did a bunch of things but I thought you know what don't outsmart yourself even if it is on the outside. Paid off! Triple Crown potential IMO and I don't say that about horses. Great day at the track today:)

I told u guys to stay away from Pyro

Had a great two days at the races. Did very well but didn't hit the derby this year except for the Oaks Derby Double. Did include Big Brown in my boxes along with Pryo, Denis of Cork and Z Fortune but threw out the filly from the get go. Hated to hear about her going down.

Would be nice to see. Horse certainly has the talent but it seems there's always a horse out there that skips the first two legs and comes in fresh to prevent a Triple Crown.
