Beechwood has one of the most pathetic weight rooms you have ever seen. The locker room is over 30 years old and the boys are very cramped in there. The concession stand is even older. The only relatively new thing we have is the field. Yet, we consistently turn out a top team in class A every year. It is not always about money. Good coaching (and ours do not make a lot), supportive parents, and the heart and soul of our players is what makes our teams great.

 

Also, as noted above, not only are schools severely strapped for money, all public schools have Title IX issues. Money must be evenly spent on boys and girls. It is very hard to pour money into a football team even if you had it.

 

You can have great football teams without a lot of upgrades.

 

It's easy to say that when you are the KING of The Class. Beechwood has kids lining up to come to Beechwood to play football.

 

If Frankfort had a couple of state championsips I am sure local kids would be wanting to show up and play as well. Since coaches can't recruit kids you have to let winning and facilities do that for you.

The line is the biggest question mark in my book losing five guys up front, but with Tom Roberts coaching the line I'm sure they'll be ready by August. Also, the loss of Acklin at DC might dampen the stingy FHS defense of last year.

Is this the same Tom Roberts that was head coach at Western Hills?

I don't know about Hills but i know he was at Franklin for a while.

Tall Trees, he will be an Assistant who will have Defensive and Special Team Assignments....DC is merely a Title, if you Google his name (Tommy Acklin), you will see that he will be a great addition to any staff...As Coach Bucket stated ealier, one of the best Football Minds around....

I assure you, you school has spent more money on your FIELD than Frankfort High has spent on ALL SPORTS COMBINED at FHS in the last 5 to 10 years!.I have been to Beechwood and I believe you have field turf.I am a FCHS fan and live in Frankfort,and know the situation at FHS.Foley and Co have performed a minor miracle to just put uniforms on kids backs, much less be competitive!You cannot truly understand the situation at FHS if you can't see that most programs have a huge edge compared to FHS before the first practice ever happens.I doubt many coaches could have the success that these coaches have had if put in the same situation.Most would choose to move on and forsake the kids.

One thing I know about Foley is either he's crazy or he FHS football and kids becasue hes been offered jobs but never left: YET and I hope he continues to stay at FHS real great guy and he will find some great shoe fillers maybe not as great but just as good!!!

The Beechwood poster was correct ... the facilities (outside of the field) are substandard ..... at best. Many of you would probably drop of shock if you ever actually got to see the facilities outside of the field. Then your excuses would fall about .... quickly.

 

Also .. for the other poster who said Beechwood has "kids lining up" .. again .. no clue. The numbers have been in a decline for years now.

Thank you Quickslick! I WAS trying to be supportive. I can see that was a mistake. It is very disappointing to see people who know nothing about Beechwood or its history make presumptious comments.

 

You are also correct when you say our championship tradition began on a regular football field beautifully maintained by a very devoted man who worked maintainence for Beechwood for years. I am pretty sure that he didnt get rich doing that, he did it because he loved the school and the boys.

 

BTW, our school paid ZERO for the field. It was mostly paid for (is still being paid for) one generous family. The rest was financed by donations from families.
