There is only one booster club that is for all sports. The parents work hard but they are trying to fund all sports.

I personally think Metcalf will replace fields with no problem. Fields is a world class athlete, but Metcalf IMO might end up a better football player.

I agree with every statement you made. I am not on here saying that Football is the only one getting left out. But the thread is about what FHS needs to improve on. So to improve the play of football at FHS there has to be upgrades made in all phases of football to make it better.

 

I will tell you this, if the school would make an investment into the football program the return would be greater than investing in technology.

 

When 8th graders are trying to decide where they want to go to school their parents don't look at technology, they look at athletic teams. If you build a championship football team more kids will want to come to your school. Enrollment will rise that generates money.

 

Not to knock on education, but the last time I checked no one paid $5 bucks to watch little Johnny go to the library to read a book.

 

The math teacher doesn't have 1500 people gathered around a fence if Little Johhny doesn't ad 2+2 correctly.

 

The pay $5 a game to watch little Johhny win football games. Let Little Johhny drop a touchdown or someone miss a block and 1500 people are mad at the coach.

 

I hate that a socail work position was cut. But the football team just lost 3 social workers. Yes, coaches do social work too. They also tutor, assist kids into getting into college and provide lunch money to kids that don't have it.

 

I am not saying football is more important than education. But I will say that football is important to education.

 

So yes the people of Frankfort have to decide do they want district Championships? or State Championships? You can't get get a state title if you don't make the investment needed.

 

There are ways to generate funds to support your athletic teams. I just don't think anyone in the district is putting their mind to work to do so.

 

By the way if the library ever wants to fund raise they can come and keep the chains at the football game for $200 a game. Just thought another way the football program can help the school.

Bucket - you know that I was just giving you a hard time. I love Panther football and Coach Foley and you and all of the coaches that are leaving. Maybe there will be another swing and we can get going to make some improvements. I do know that one of the asst. supers was at Home Depot the other day trying to drum up money to repaing the stands and repair some sections of it. People are working, it is just a different paradigm now and we have to be creative. Heck, my yung' uns will be there in only a few years and I will want the best facilities for them

Just for the record, I think replacing the OC will be one of the toughest jobs Foley will have. I have rarely seen a running game that was so unpredictable and explosive. The passing game was also unpredictable, but in a completely different way.

EJ was a great talent. He by far was the best athlete on the team. But the best FOOTBALL Player was Jordan Morgan. Morgan was the heart of the team and vocal leader.

As for running the offense no QB at FHS over the last 5 years has understood the offense like EJ. His leadership as the QB will be missed.

Micco wells will be tough to replace because he was the QB of the Defense. He kept everyone in the right alignment.

But you are correct what will be the toughest to replace is the 12 seniors that built the program and made it what it is. Foley and Company now have to work harder to take it to the next level.

EJ Fields is a class young man and will be sorely missed. I do not care what any of you say.

The athletic kids are there. Need good line play from some inexperienced guys. Need to get good coaches to fill the spots that are missing.

The line is the biggest question mark in my book losing five guys up front, but with Tom Roberts coaching the line I'm sure they'll be ready by August. Also, the loss of Acklin at DC might dampen the stingy FHS defense of last year.

Get bigger, faster and Stonger, learn the game better, throw the ball some become more fundamental on defense.

Beechwood has one of the most pathetic weight rooms you have ever seen. The locker room is over 30 years old and the boys are very cramped in there. The concession stand is even older. The only relatively new thing we have is the field. Yet, we consistently turn out a top team in class A every year. It is not always about money. Good coaching (and ours do not make a lot), supportive parents, and the heart and soul of our players is what makes our teams great.

 

Also, as noted above, not only are schools severely strapped for money, all public schools have Title IX issues. Money must be evenly spent on boys and girls. It is very hard to pour money into a football team even if you had it.

 

You can have great football teams without a lot of upgrades.
