Gas $3.39 to $3.61

Featured Replies

I saw an article predicting relief in the fall. It also said that $4.00 gas will happen before then.

I have been seeing/reading that too.

The price of gas is keeping our country's economy out of a recession...

He means the price of gas is "money being spent," thus delaying a recession.

If it wasn't for the oil companies this nation would not be in the horrible shape it is right now.

Do you know how much oil is right now? It's the highest it's ever been, as a result gas prices are going to go up. It's not like the oil is the same price and then gas just keeps raising. It's silly to think. It's like with anything. If cheese goes up then the price of a pizza at a resturant may go up. I just find it dumb to criticize gas prices anymore. It's a result of a poor economy and a war driven world.

Can you explain how oil companies are making record amounts of profit please?

This all has alot to do with the US economy folks. The US dollar has taken a big drop recently over the past couple years. Last I heard one euro was valued at about $1.34 in US dollars, that was the first of March, it may be worse now. However oil throughout the world is bought and sold in US dollars.

So as the economy struggles gas prices naturally increase. Basically one dollar isn't worth as much as it was a couple years ago, PERIOD. Therefore when you're dollar isn't valued as much it's going to take more of them to purchase something such as oil.

It's unfortunate, and it's not what we like to hear but it's the truth, plus the gas prices naturally go up during summer months due to the way it has to be refined.

Oil prices are high because they're sold in US dollars, that's it, if the dollar was valued higher, gas prices would be lower. The US's slowing economy has a huge impact on current oil prices.

It's keeping the economy from recovering.

It's keeping the economy from recovering.

Not the case at all. Like stated above by Sportsfan41, the dollar has taken a hit over the past couple of years. With the US dollar being the currency at which oil is bought and sold throughout the world, the more our economy struggles, the higher gas prices go. This has nothing to do with supply folks. Its' all about the $$$...

I am so tired of these threads. Lets see how many times we can use the hackneyed phrase "fat cats" . . .

I have made a ton of driving cuts and plan on making even more now.

Does anyone think it is time for ther gov to get involved in this?

Surf through the Politics forum and look at some debates with myself, Ace, and a few others.

The Gov't will continue to turn there back for an assortment of reasons.

I have said it all along the only person who plans to slap oil in the face are the Dems with their windfall tax. Which won't lower gas instantly, but it will help fund a new souce and make it harder for oil to stay high. In turn will lower gas slowly, real slowly over the next 3-5 years. Their rival McCain his plan, well, at least he will do something unlike his predecessor but I don't think it's gonna help much.
