April 19, 200818 yr I'll agree it's out of hand. But, I called it several years ago. In 2006, I predicted gas prices would drop just prior to the mid-term elections, and magically it did in an effort to keep Congress driven by Republicans. When that didn't work out so well, I said expect gas to rise beyond belief. Do you believe this? I'm not knocking you in any way, though I quoted your post. But, this was an easy call. Bush was going to make sure the people who got him elected twice got paid, and apprantely, paid some more. Again, I could go on, but will not. The incredible surge in gas prices has and always was more politically driven than many are "speculating" though. WOW WOW WOW. If you seriously think one side of the aisle controlls gas prices, then WOW. So I guess this current hike in prices as the election rolls around is the republican party trying to stick it to the American underclass people right,... pretty sure that's about in line to what you're suggesting. Certainly these republican oil guys that apparently controll gas prices are just trying to get the American voters attention once again with this influx in gas prices. :dancingpa:dancingpa Go rich republicans!!! Again WOW Oh and by the way, Michael Moore called, he said he wants his idea's back, and to stop claiming them as your own.
April 19, 200818 yr 1981 avg. gas price...$1.35 g. 1985 avg. gas price...$1.20 g. 1990 avg. gas price...$1.16 g. 1999 avg.gas price...$1.17 g. The new millennium... Gas prices start climbing... 2000 avg.gas price...$1.59 g. 2005 avg.gas price...$2.30 g. 4/14/08 avg. gas price...$3.61 :creepy::creepy::creepy: That post sums it up for me. If it was a gradually increase like most products in this country it wouldn't be so bad. But the increase from 2000 to current prices is crazy. From 1985 to 2000 it only increased by .39 a gallon but from 2000 to current day it increased $2.02. That is more than what it cost in 2000.
April 20, 200818 yr Easy guys I know everyone is frusterated but I wouldn't take pokes at people over something we can't control right now. 2008 will be the worst year ever for gas prices. In 2009 more ethanol will hit the market, and we will have a president (if it's a dem) with no oil ties. Or at the very least a president with a 4 year lease to get oil down and the economy going or to find a new job in 4 years.

Again WOW Oh and by the way, Michael Moore called, he said he wants his idea's back, and to stop claiming them as your own. So that's what you call all the middle-class and even upper middle class families that are having their life style changed by these soaring costs? And you wonder why someone may take exception with what you say? You do understand that families making $80,000 a year are changing vacation plans, changing recreational plans, and even looking at ways to change where and how they do their jobs, as a result of the prices, right? I'm sure they'd all appreciate being called, "underclass," almost as much as I do. You also realize I'm sure that the prices are affecting the, "underclass," local governments in every part of the country. City and county officials are really going to struggle with this as we approach summer. The end result will likely be higher local taxes or some sort of surcharge, that most of us, "underclass," Americans will have to pay. And for the record, no I'm not saying Bush and his boys are trying to, "stick it to," anyone. Revenge is seldom a motive among thieves. Gas prices dropped in 06 to try to remove it from the public's mind and allow the Bush to keep control of Congress. They were going back up after that election regardless of the outcome.
April 20, 200818 yr For those complaining about price of gas- How many of you are currently drink a bottle of water? If you paid $1 for that bottle out of a vending machine that water cost $8 per gallon  Yet no one complains about $8 a gallon water. A bottle of water is technically a luxury. There plenty of alternatives. Right now for gas, there are no alternatives and you have to buy 10-15 gallons at a time.
April 20, 200818 yr A bottle of water is technically a luxury. There plenty of alternatives. Right now for gas, there are no alternatives and you have to buy 10-15 gallons at a time. :thumb: True. And the plastic is bad for the environment. I gave up bottled water and we have a little extra money. We need to do something about getting off oil for fuel. As oil supplies begin to dwindle, the prices of plastics, fertilizer, medicine, makeup, and everything else made from oil with skyrocket.
April 20, 200818 yr A bottle of water is technically a luxury. There plenty of alternatives. Right now for gas, there are no alternatives and you have to buy 10-15 gallons at a time. I think the real point is that we aren't yet ready to give up our luxuries for those things we need, be they real or perceived.
April 21, 200818 yr Correct me if I am wrong and I know the people on here will but isnt the oil going up to record highs not because of a shortage so to speak but because it is sold as a commodity like anything else and people are seeing it as a good investment. It was only about 10 years ago that gas was 88 cents a gallon. Gas went up higher than that in the late 70's and through the 80's and then came down when the times were good in the late 90's. I bought a Corolla that I could not get $10 worth of gas into in 1997. So it has nothing to do with time and prices going up as time goes on. If that is the case gas would have just went up and up and up as time went on. Gas did not do that. Oil is traded like stocks and when people see it as a good place to put there money then they buy buy so it shoots the price of it up. That is how I understand it. But I could be wrong have been before.
April 21, 200818 yr Oil prices are going up because major oil producers are not keeping pace with demand. I can't really blame Saudi Arabia for refusing to increase production. Democrats in Congress have refused to allow the US to increase production from our own domestic reserves, so it is unreasonable to expect that Saudi Arabia to make up the resulting shortfall to stabilize prices.
April 21, 200818 yr ROME: With oil at record highs, a top energy official said Monday that fundamentals such as tight crude supplies and vibrant demand in China and other emerging markets were the main reasons — not speculative trading. International Energy Agency head Nobuo Tanaka also warned that current prices, which hit a record of US$117.40 a barrel Monday, are too high for all consumers and are particularly punishing for developing nations, where fuel accounts for a big chunk of consumer income. "The problem is not underground but aboveground ... to have better infrastructure, more stable policies in producing countries is important to increase capacity," Tanaka said at a biennial energy conference in Rome. "There is no quick fix on the supply side and spare capacity is likely to remain tight," he said, underscoring the need for investment. http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/04/21/business/EU-FIN-Italy-Energy-Conference.php
April 21, 200818 yr Most oil is traded in US dollars too. If the dollar is bad the price of oil goes up. http://www.geotimes.org/apr08/article.html?id=WebExtra041508_2.html

But I could be wrong have been before. That's dead on I have said it for 2-3 years now and will continue. It is nothing more than the manipulation of a commidity that several people/groups/organizations including ours are benefting from. Oil shortage? The Saudis who are the oil kings who won't reveal there total supply is speculated to have 100 years worth of oil left by themselves. Iraq who actually challenges Saudi Arabia in oil is said to have similar numbers. Oil will be around till the end of civilization. The thing is, if the people who produce are making HUGE dollars off it, why would they want to build more refineries and or increase production only to drive prices down? I will continue to say as well OPEC is making a huge mistake. They could have sold oil for 50 a barrel for many many many years to come and made massive profits without anyone really saying anything, especially at this point. They are driving us to find new alternatives.... why would you want to taper someone off your money flow? It's not worth 10 years of massive profits in the long run.

"there is plenty of crude." Hence, the reason they won't increase production.
