April 18, 200818 yr Oil will peak at $125 this year in about 4-5 weeks. Gas will be 3.75-3.80. The funny part is the so called relief... that's gonna be at best 2.75-2.85. Nothing dramatic is gonna happen until it goes over 4.00.

Oil may possibly get that high, but it's more than likely gas could make it above $4.00 a gallon, I'm not an oil expert I just know what I know. And what I don't know is whether or not the gas guru's have started putting the stuff in gasoline which causes a huge jump in prices each summer but is also mandatory for evironmental reasons. Hopefully that's part of the reason and the jump in oil prices in just coinsidence.

Too my knowledge it has not happened yet but is coming soon. Right now it's all crude oil, which accounts for 70% of gas pricing I believe. It is currently at 125 dollars, which is absolutely rediculous. Saudi King Abdullah (the daddy of oil) said himself about 3 months ago when it hit 80 dollars that "80 dollar oil will not last." That is a direct quote. Speculators will get oil up to 125 and that's all the strain the economy will allow for now. In our area regular unleaded will not get to 4.00, high 3's though. I know a lot of experts who believe oil could reach 200 dollars in the next year or so. It all depends on who takes Washington in Novemeber. Bush himself went to Saudi Arabia about 2 months ago and went to King Abdullah himself and asked personally for them to put more crude on the market. From what I read, the request was rejected in less than an hour.

If that happens oil isn't the problem it's the US economy. Quite frankly I odn't see that happening due to the fact that if Oil was ever to be that expensive the companies that controll the flow of oil would be losing money because that would mena the US economy is in SHAMBLES, like dying. Which also means that all the money they(middle eastern oil tycoon's) invested into the US as of late, is going to nothing. So really doubt that'll happen. However as for Washington, I think it has a big part of whats going on right now. However noone there can controll it right now, the middle eastern folks are controlling votes right now and that's the truth. Once the candidates are set up you'll hear about this every day non stop, everything up til now including Iraq to an extent will fall on the back burner. I had some other stuff but can't think of it right now. When I do it'll be up here.
April 18, 200818 yr One side note... typo from before... oil is at 115 not 125, yet. Sportsfan if you find any further info, please share it. I love hearing opinions from other voters. I do agree 200 dollar oil would seem like a death threat to the economy, but who actually though it would get to 115? Whoever gets elected president only has a 4 year lease as we all know. Unlike our current situation where we got Bush's 2nd term and the oil spike, I think it will be impossible for the next prez to get a 2nd term if the economy and gas are still the same in 2012.

What's sad is that a cartel like OPEC is basically controlling voters at this point, if they're not happy with the current administration the US will pay for it, though that's not exactly the current situation now, it's the truth.
April 18, 200818 yr Not the case at all. Like stated above by Sportsfan41, the dollar has taken a hit over the past couple of years. With the US dollar being the currency at which oil is bought and sold throughout the world, the more our economy struggles, the higher gas prices go. This has nothing to do with supply folks. Its' all about the $$$... I agree in part that is about the $$$$$, but the high prices are keeping the economy from recovering. People are changing a lot on what they do, small businesses such as restaurants, bars and clubs are seeing a huge hit, people are staying at home a lot more. Not to mention that such things as food, and pretty much anything else you buy will keep going up as the stores will just pass on the increased cost that they now have to pay to the transporters, who have to raise their cost to stay even with gas prices. I agree that the dollar has taken a hit the past couple of years, but few companies are doing well right now, one is the oil industry. Until the prices come down, people have changed their ways, the only place I see the economic stimulation checks going that we are getting in a few weeks is in the pockets of the oil companies.
April 18, 200818 yr The gov would do something if they were buying gas like we do. I say they all from the top dog to the bottom feeder should have to pay for it. None of them should get it for free.
April 18, 200818 yr I went to California 10 years ago and gas was around what we are paying now here, but my family that lives there said the prices are still 3-4 bucks. So they haven't had this huge jump apparently. My husband needs a new car, we all ready have a mini van, and he wants a truck or SUV. I hate to say no, but they way gas is, we will have to both have 2 jobs to afford to fill the cars up. Its insane.
April 18, 200818 yr For those complaining about price of gas- How many of you are currently drink a bottle of water? If you paid $1 for that bottle out of a vending machine that water cost $8 per gallon  Yet no one complains about $8 a gallon water.
April 18, 200818 yr We have tons of oil in reserve... What has to happen before we use the reserve? Also, if all of the trucking companies, not the independent drivers, but the major companies went on strike until gas prices met there demand at say $2.00 a gallon, would that work or set things in motion at least?
