What's your favorite band that most people have never heard of.

Mine is the Shins. Discovered them after watching Garden State. (Great movie by the way, but thats another thread by itself) I looooove the shins, but its hard to share my love because nobody really knows them. Their lyrics are amazing, their use of soothing harmonic sounds always put me in a better place. Genre = indie by the way. If you've never heard of them you should check them out.

What's y'alls favorite?

Born to, Born to, Born to multiply or born to gaze into night skies,

When all you want's one more Saturday.

I like the Shins have been following them since Oh, Inverted World.

If I had to pick a band, it would be Say Anything. They are pretty girly, in the new (miscribed) "emo" scene (which they often defend, rather than abandon) but their music is not nearly as formulaic as other bands. The lead singer, Max Bemis, has a deeper voice then Fall Out Boy and such, his vocabulary is incredible, his humor and overall manner is awesome, and he sings with real passion (a lot of his struggles come from his drug problems and bipolar disorder).

I also love The Mars Volta (experimental band, fairly popular), Foxy Shazam! (a NKY/Cincy band), Refused (a defunct radical socialist Swedish band), and Streetlight Manifesto (a ska band that was created from Catch-22).

I'm a Say Anything fan. The thing with "emo" music is that the worst bands are so terrible, that people can't see how creative and intuitive the best bands lyrics and music are.

That song is intended to be so tongue-in-cheek, and people don't get it, and they get turned off by it big time. Have you followed them for a while? There best album was right before that one, entitled "...Is a Real Boy"

Scars on Broadway sounds like they will be awesome. They haven't released an album yet, but they have a song out called "They Say" and it is awesome.

Here are a few of mine:

The Raconteurs

The String Cheese Incident

The Disco Biscuits

Ben Folds...

My more popular favorites: Widespread Panic, Kings Of Leon, Wilco, The Flaming Lips.

I'm with ya Somerset.

The String Cheese Incident, Widespread Panic and Wilco are all awesome.

I know a few people listen to them on here but many have never heard of The Drive By Truckers and Old Crow Medicine Show. Both are great.

The Refreshments/Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers by far, my all time favorite.

I also love The Shins, and The Decemberists, VHS Or Beta, among others.

The Dismemberment Plan

They broke up a few years ago but were and continue to be one of my favorite bands.

Add the Blow Monkeys to the list

The Refreshments/Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers by far, my all time favorite.
