April 8, 200818 yr Nah, anyone who watched Memphis all year knew that free throws would eventually get them. Just so happened it was the national championship before it did. Doesn't this still qualify as a choke? I mean you lost a 9 pt lead with under 2 minutes to go. And it's not just the free throws. It's CDR trying to dunk on a KU guy with 16 secs left instead of pulling the ball out or passing to one of the 2 Memphis guys who were wide open and wasting some clock. It's not fouling the KU guys and letting them hit a 3 to tie it up (Brilliant!).

April 8, 200818 yr Key play in my mind...with 16 seconds left, after the steal CDR took it to the rim and got fouled....missed both. If he pulls it back out time would have run down. I don't remember how many they were up then. If he pulls it out, they still foul him.

But maybe he was afraid if he backed out they would foul him, we know what would happen then.

No chance they were going to run 16 seconds off... now maybe it would have given Kansas a little less time, but let's keep in mind that CDR missed both and then Rose hit 1 of 2 right after before KU got the ball back.
April 8, 200818 yr Calipari was the choker in my book.He had 2 timeouts left and should have used them both to tell his players what to do in the last 10 seconds,but he probably didn't know himself what they should do so they went on their own and lost.

April 9, 200818 yr Dale Brown and his talent galore at LSU never did anything... followed by Ray Meyer and his Mark Aguire teams that bombed out. Virginia with the Ralph Sampson bunch fizzled too.
April 9, 200818 yr Maybe the '74 UCLA Bruins. They were the 7 time straight National Champ. They blew an 11 point lead in the second half vs. NC State and then blew a 7 point lead in the final couple of minutes of the 2nd OT before losing by 3. The lead they lost was the era before 3 point goals and shot clocks so it was hard to lose that kind of lead in that era, in that short of a time.
