Hopefully Donnie understands that the success will not come without some hard work and some major dicipline. I think Donnie coming back is a great asset to this football team and will do nothing but make the guys on the other side of the ball jobs that much harder. I hope Donnie all the best of luck!!!

He left about half way through the regular season as I recall. I won't and I hope no one else gets into why he left. But I will say it wasn't for anything terrible. Let's leave it at that, if that's okay.

 

He will be a major asset to the team if he can fix the issues that he had last season. In those first two games that he played in, I was very impressed by his ability to "blow things up" inside.

I know it's very early, but can some BGP'ers provide a potential opening day starting line-up for the 'Birds? I'm just curious, especially since Highlands seems loaded with several good RBs and LBs for this upcoming season.

on offense: Dempsey on the line (OT/C?) and Conner (RB) and Guidugli (QB) are probably your only "sure bets" right now. HHS has a lot of kids vying for positions and the coaches will be deciding the game of "if he can play here then we can play this guy there". That makes it very difficult to accurately project.

I agree with you Boom. Only disagreement I have with Z is that I'm not sure I'd call Tony G as the starting qb a sure bet quite yet. He probably had the edge coming out of Spring football as he will be the senior and Bardo did not significantly out play him in the Spring (which my guess is the standard Mueller is using).

 

But the bottom line is that the Birds have a lot, a whole lot, of talent to reload with this year. Their record will depend on how quickly the new starters get seasoned.

I am really looking forward to seeing a healthy Blake Newman at LB this year!

 

He was a beast as a sophmore but was limited by injury his junior season. If Blake is healthy this season, I feel for the opposing RBs and QB's.

Bingo! Tony is going to have to play near flawless ball in the 7 on 7's and into the start of this season's campaign. I wish the best of luck to both qb's! Afterall, 15 games in a season is long - especially if you take into account the nicks and bumps one gets along the way at the qb position. I guess I am saying it will take Will and Tony to get to the Pizza box.

To me the biggest question marks on this years team will be the offensive line and the entire defensive unit where they lost quite a bit of experience.

The offensive line will definitely have to form a cohesive unit and execute at a high grade next season in order for Conner/Crawford and Head to see any daylight. Im sure Coach Turner will turn em out by Sept.

Thomas) like football more than baseball. And Stickymitts when he made his one post about Highlands baseball confirmed that the football coaches do NOT in any way discourage kids to play baseball. To the contrary, they encourage them to do so. Mueller in particular almost begged Josh Conner to play baseball. And you may not know who Sticky is, but dang it I do and he has no reason to lie on that point. The number one reason by a blooming country mile as to why more football players (and other athletes) don't play baseball is because of the Spring Break rule. I know a lot of these kids as my younger son played Knothole baseball with them for years. I have personally asked them and their parents why they don't play baseball as I wish they would as it would make out baseball team much better. I have yet, read closely here, yet to hear them say its because spring football. Its because of the Spring Break policy. Do you have that? Do you understand? Heck, don't trust me: ask the Collinsworths why Austin doesn't play; ask the Rollers why Brandon doesn't play; ask the Bardos why Will doesn't play. If you know so much, surely you know those parents. Ask them and I can guarantee you that not a single one will tell you its because the football coaches told them they may not have a starting spot in the fall in the football team and its not because the football coaches discouraged them not to play baseball.
